I like to think that 300 or so years after the events of the book, Nynaeve and Jahar become close and she possibly bonds him as a warder.
1) They are part of the handful of people living who still remember life BEFORE.
2) They are part of the handful of people living who were close to Rand Al'Thor
3) They are part of the handful of people living who knew Lan.
4) They are part of the handful of people living who fought in the Last Battle.
And Jahar clearly has no problem with iron-willed take-charge women, actually, they're the kind he prefers.

As it is no longer stupid cold here, and because my back wasn't killing me, I went out and worked in the garden. Alas, none of my tomatoes survived, despite my best efforts with frost cloth. However, 3 of my chichiquilites did, and I plan to repot them soon.
I amended 1/2 of one bed with the contents of my bokashi bucket and did some "lasagne" with leaf matter in the other half, and planted peas and mixed brassicas there. (The bokashi side needs to wait at least a month before planting.)
Then I amended and prepped a lot of soil and planted peas in containers.
Tomorrow, I plan to amend one bed with a tray from my worm bin, and prep a new tray in said worm bin.
I've also done laundry and filed a lot of papers.
And mixed in there, I watched the back half of LOTR The Two Towers, and am now working Return of the King.
All in all, a good and restful day.

Unpacking a bit here ...
Part of my blues are due to the darker winter days.
Part of my blues are due to being very busy at work, coming home, and just being too mentally tired to give a rat's ass.
Part of my blues are due to the fact that the US will slide into authoritarianism. The dumbocrats have nearly completely flubbed their last best chance to right the ship.
And a part of my blues are due to the absolute bungling of the Wheel of Time show. I had been so looking forward to it. I was ready to jump into the fandom that was going to spring up around the anticipated LOTR quality adaptation of the books. I was going to have something to share the squee about. And instead we got this absolutely bungled mess of a show that takes a hard departure from the books around episode 3, and incorporates just about every trope that the books worked to critique, and is just ineptly done on just about every level: bad storytelling, mediocre camera work, bad FX, WTF costuming work.
And then to see several booktubers who I respected still keep shilling for the show -- in order to stay in Amazon's good graces and get keep getting those sneek previews, etc, just makes me want to scream. What fucking sellouts, and not even for good money, but for piddly little scraps!
It's not that the Grinch came and stole WOTmas, it's that he took a big shit in my living room, too.
Yes, yes, I'll work through this. It's just that right now, I feel I have very little to look forward to that brings me joy, or people to talk with about our shared love of a bright shiny.

Season 6 of The Expanse has made me delighted with joy in all the ways that WoT has made me want to weep.

Holy fuck, that was just wretched and stupid.
For everything they did that was interesting or good, they did about 6 "you make jesus facepalm" things.
And with this episode I am done with the series.

As much as I like the occasional thing or element here, this is not the series for me and I will almost certainly stop watching with the end of the season. The changes being made from the source are just (a) too much and (b) really fucking dumb.
Things I did like: the opening sequence of the Blood Snow. Lord Agelmar's sister having trained at the tower but not being strong enough to test for Aes Sedai. (Though the stoneless ring just looks even dumber than the ones with a stone.) Rand using archery practice to settle his mind.
The rest however was just a dumpster fire to me.

Long post about Wheel of Time TV show, no real spoilers, and inspired by a conversation I had with my friend Kit Kindred earlier this week, and after the hot mess of S1E6.
So, I have a theory about the WOT TV show. Amazon bought it to bury it, & are making their contractually obligated series before any rights revert, etc. They snapped it up so that it could not compete with the property they plan to heavily market & promote: LOTR.
( hear me outCollapse )
