Just and effective governance is needed for successful wind energy development.
JustWind4All is a research project that supports the acceleration of on- and offshore wind energy, including emerging wind technologies like airborne and floating, through just and effective governance.
By integrating insights from different academic disciplines and societal perspectives, we support synergies and exchange among people and organisations to coordinate and participate in actions around wind energy deployment.
FIRST JUSTWIND4ALL EXPERT WORKSHOP
On March 29, we held an expert workshop in the region of Catalunya in Spain to better understand the regional barriers to wind energy. The practical insights provided by the diverse experts from industry, policy, NGOs and community groups will help adapt the socio-environmental ENBIOS modelling tool to simulate regional on- and offshore wind energy realities. We’d like to thank all our participants for sharing their insights and especially congratulate our partners Institute of Environmental Science and Technology – Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (ICTA-UAB) and Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) for organising the workshop.
JustWind4All and WIMBY to co-host a session
JustWind4All and WIMBY will co-host a session at the 6th International Conference on Energy & Environment. The session titled Wind Energy in the current European energy context: challenges beyond techno-economic efficiency will provide a space to discuss the current situation of the complex world of wind energy, with an inter- and transdisciplinary focus. Co-hosted by EU-funded JUSTWIND4ALL and WIMBY projects, this session is an open invitation to academics from various disciplines to share their insights and engage in a rich dialogue around wind power development and its role in the energy transition in the EU. The session is structured in the first part of presentations highlighting ongoing work, followed by a guided discussion. The session will include presentations, as well as a guided forum for discussion on the complex European wind energy context. If you want to join us at the session, [...]
Supporting and hindering factors that influence social acceptance and commitment to wind energy project
The acronym NIMBY refers to the English phrase "Not in my backyard" and it is defined in The Oxford English Dictionary as: "an attitude attributed to people who object to the siting of something they consider harmful or dangerous in their own neighbourhood, while implicitly not objecting to similar developments elsewhere"[1]. Not only do wind farm projects not escape this definition, but they are also projects where public opinion is in favour of sustainable power generation, yet local communities are often opposed to such developments. This is due to the fear of potential negative impacts they may have on the local community and rights-holders. Such concerns are generally referred to as health concerns, potential negative landscape and environmental risks, land value and impact on tourism and economic activity in general. WIMBY, WENDY and JustWind4All are all European projects that aim to change [...]
Leadership in Transitions Training Programme
This programme is designed to help you develop your leadership skills through experiential learning, reflection, and trying new approaches based on what you learn. It consists of modules which present different viewpoints and offers exercises to help you apply these insights in your daily work as a leader in the wind energy sector.
