The Great Little Small Things

musings for thanksgiving, what is gratitude, joys of joel musings, how big is your little, life quotes
The Great Little Small Things -(Gratitude) – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com

The miniature menus and attractions
i got to hold while visiting the nanaimo museum
brought me to a bigger convention
acknowledging that the great little small things
are not entirely different from the big things.

The small things we took for granted
we barely noticed along the way
because our sight is limited
to that big thing on top of the mountain
while we are still on the valleys

Forgetting to smell the flowers
because we look forward more
to those tall distant trees
thinking that the fruits it bear
is greater than what the tiny bees are enjoying

Complaining that we have so little time
and such small things in our hand
we tend to climb the mountains
and surprisingly discover
that what appears to be big from the valley

is still small and little
when we reach the top of the mountain

Looking down
the view from the peak
we still see everything small and little
and still wish for something bigger.

Yes everything below and within us
is still small and little
no matter how far we’ve reached
Nothing different when
we were still in the valleys aiming for the peak.

I am no different
just like everyone else
but sometimes i don’t know when to stop
to remind myself “How Big is My Little.”

Can You Name All The Yellow Things

Can You Name All The Yellow Things? – – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com

Can You Name All The Yellow Things?
Let me recall through a poem:

Seeing Yellow in a sea of blue
reminds me of the things
that made me smile and sing

Tie a yellow ribbon
and the yellow submarine

The cute smileys,
sunflowers and daffodils

What else are yellow
beside that sun in the sky

The raincoat that i wear
when the clouds start to cry

The yellow cab
not the one that i ate

but the taxi
that drives so slow
when i’m already late

the long bananas
i can’t resist not to bite

the scrambled eggs and the cheese
that sometimes look white

the corn on the cob
the lemon and the butter

the yellow school bus
of my naughty pesky brother

the yellow pencil that you gave
so i can write you a letter

but if there’s one thing
that i’ll always remember

was the not so yellow tears
you gave me last september.

Bows and Arrows by Joel F

Bows and Arrows by Joel F, a poem about revenge and forgiveness, joys of joel poems, poetry, what is revenge, forgiveness
Bows and Arrows — https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com

From the sudden plummet to the sound of the blanket
Covering woes , to hide your lost soul.
From a covered blanket to the sound of the trumpet
Withering foes, letting them crawl.

From the blast of the trumpet to the sound of the bells
Treachery shows, dignity sold.
From the chiming of the bells to the depth of the wells
Shuddering blows, bows and arrows.

From the depth of the wells to the muddy water.
Shooting the crows, bows and arrows.
From the drowning water to the wounded master
Serving the throne with a heart of stone.

From the vengeful master to the darkest dungeon
Offering rose with its hidden thorns.
From the deepest dungeon to the fiery dragon
Ravaging ground, Hatred abound.

From the fiery dragon to the hidden cavern
Sinking holes, tricked by the falls.
From the tricky cavern to the bloody casket
Galloping horse, cursed by remorse.

From the bloody casket to the rhythmic sonnet.
Closing the prose. Eulogy goes.

The Empty Bench by Joel F

the empty bench, joys of joel quotes, poem about self respect and ownership
The Empty Bench – – – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com

Nothing to do
so i look for photos i’ve taken

Random everyday sceneries
long captured by my lens

Creating a storyline
for my crazy mind

The pictures and the lines
are all mine

So please don’t steal it
if you want to use it

enjoy it and don’t be cruel

The Maze Race by Joel F

pumpkin maze, dell osso family farm, the biggest corn maze, joys of joel musings
The Maze Race – — https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com

I never thought that an old photo of a pre halloween fun day with my high schoolmates in california would make me smile and wonder.

The excitement of being a child again playing the maze race.

The confusion where to go and who to follow.
The whisperings that i seldom hear
when i’m too busy searching for the signs.

The distractions when i sometime stop
staring at that huge orange pumpkin
wondering why it’s only hugely appreciated
during halloweens.

I do get lost sometimes
not because i don’t read the signs,
not because i don’t listen and see,

Yes, i do get lost
when my eyes are widely open
when the road is too clear
and the sky is too bright

because when you think
that everything is all right
you seldom find a way.

And most of the time
it is only when the doors are all closed
that i noticed the windows.

**Photo was taken while visiting my high schoolmates in California. They brought me to  Dell’Osso Family Farm  in Tracy for a wonderful game of racing through the biggest corn maze in the United States. I lost in the race but win priceless memories of bonding with my classmates and their kids. How time flies.
