I'm posting this in order to make sure I don't lose it, as much as to encourage other folks to read it. Just beautiful.  Made me happy, without being fluffy.  Lovely writing.

Breaking a silence of more than a year to rec a fic.

It is often tempting (I well know) for a fanfic writer to want to take on huge mythic, supernatural or spiritual themes, but it is also very hard to do it well.  A story can grow and take on a life of its own, but in the end will the resolution match the ambition?  Sadly, often it does not. 

This fic by definewisdom does.  It is measured, coherent and consistent throughout, while maintaining depth and feeling.  Epic in an understated way.  Yadda, more words of praise.

Summary: John Watson is Death. He wasn't supposed to kill the cabbie at the end of A Study in Pink, Sherlock Holmes was supposed to die that night. But Sherlock's still alive and now the world is starting to fall apart. The events of the whole series seen in a slightly more supernatural light. Also featuring "Anthea", Harry and Sebastian as the other horsemen of the apocalypse, and exploring what it takes to become a myth.

If anyone is looking for my fanfic website Storygate, or trying to follow links to it from lj or other places, this is to let you know that it is currently down. It was on GeoCities, which has closed. I believed that I would be able to transfer it directly to the Yahoo web hosting, but of course it hasn't been as easy as that. I am at this point planning to reopen my fic site, but I'm not sure when it will be operational again.

Wonderful long story.  The characters are the thing.  Arthur is himself, but the deeper, more admirable self he should be.  Merlin is spot on.  But the knights.  Oh, the knights.  They've become part of the ensemble cast; distinct parts of a band of adorable comedians, brave and true.  I think this is an instant classic.

I made it through Day 4 without comment, but the urge has grown!

My assiduous attempts to avoid being spoiled paid off, and I have been completely surprised by the major developments.
