While most JET participants live happy and healthy lives in Japan, the JET Program recognizes the importance of having mental health support ready and accessible.  Below is a list of free services and financial aid programs available to JET Program participants.

JET Online Counselling Service

JET participants are also able to receive professional counselling for free through Web Mail and Skype, as part of the JET Online Counselling Service established by CLAIR. Please ask your Prefectural Advisers, contracting organisation, or Host Prefecture/Designated City for more information.

JET Mental Health Counselling Assistance Program

With the aim of enhancing mental health support for JET participants, CLAIR offers the JET Mental Health Counselling Assistance Program. This program provides a partial subsidy (50%, up to ¥20,000 per year) for counselling costs incurred through consultation with mental health professionals in Japan not covered by health insurance. The coverage period is from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. For further information, please ask your contacting organization.

AJET PSG (AJET Peer Support Group)

AJET Peer Support Group is an anonymous helpline for JET program participants, run by a collective of volunteer JET program participants. JET Program participants can connect with AJET Peer Support Group via Microsoft Teams by searching for ajetpsg@gmail.com (or AJET Peer Support) within the Teams app/desktop client and calling the line during their hours. AJET Peer Support Group’s current hours are from 8:00PM JST to 1:00AM JST.

TELL (Tokyo English Life Line) 03-5774-0992

TELL is a nonprofit organization that was created in 1973. It offers free and anonymous phone counseling and information daily from 9:00am to 11:00pm.
