He has served the Holy See as a consultant to various Congregations and Councils; prelate and attorney at the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura; judge of the Court of Appeals of the Vatican City State. He also collaborated in the drafting of several Apostolic Constitutions. He has published several books and over 110 articles specializing mainly in canon law.

Barton Geger is a teacher and research scholar at the Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies at Boston College and general editor of Studies in the Spirituality of Jesuits. His interests include Ignatian spirituality, the desert tradition, and the history of the discernment of spirits.
