I am building my lab at ODU. Please contact me and attach your CV or resume if you are interested in joining my team.
My lab focuses on remote sensing, modeling, and observations of polar oceans and coastal systems using large datasets. I run a two-track research program, with one focus in polar oceans and the other in coastal waters. In polar oceans, my lab looks at interactions between climate, sea ice, and ecosystem dynamics in the West Antarctic Peninsula region of the Southern Ocean. Specifically we use satellite remote sensing and 1-dimensional hydrodynamic-ecosystem-ice modeling to assess different species’ carbon uptake. In coastal systems, we look at water clarity, particles, and light in aquatic ecosystems. We have investigated how shoreline armoring impacts water clarity in estuaries and how water clarity varies over decadal time scales in estuaries such as the Chesapeake Bay.
