FAQs for Candidates

1. What is JDPreferred.com?

JDPreferred.com is a niche job board designed specifically for law graduates and J.D. holders seeking nontraditional legal careers, often referred to as “JD Preferred” or “JD Advantage” roles. The platform aggregates thousands of curated job listings that leverage legal training in areas such as compliance, policy, real estate, business, and more, while intentionally excluding traditional attorney positions.

By focusing exclusively on opportunities that utilize a Juris Doctor outside of traditional practice, we offer a uniquely targeted resource for professionals exploring alternative career paths. The site curates hard-to-find legal-adjacent and nontraditional roles across industries including corporate and finance, real estate, healthcare, technology, government, policy, and risk, featuring opportunities ranging from entry-level to executive.

2. What is the difference between JD Preferred and JD Advantage jobs?

JD Preferred roles explicitly state that a JD is desired. You will often see language like preferred, a plus, an asset, or similar. These roles directly acknowledge the degree.

JD Advantage roles do not explicitly state a JD preference but the title and description show that legal training is valuable. Examples include work centered on contracts, regulatory compliance, policy, or analysis.

3. Do I need a JD to use JDPreferred.com?

No, while the site focuses on JD holders, many non JD professionals use and benefit from the job board. These include paralegals, compliance specialists, contract managers, and others in healthcare, finance, HR, real estate, and tech. The JD Advantage category highlights roles that do not explicity prefer a law degree but that may reward legal training.

4. How do I apply to a job that interests me?

Click the Apply Externally link on the listing to apply on the company site. If a direct link is not present, visit the company careers page and apply there. We do not require profiles and we do not submit applications for you. You control your process.

5. Is there a fee to search for jobs?

Yes, everyone can start with a one week trial for $5. After the trial, the plan renews at $29.99 per month. Cancel anytime. Membership includes full access to listings plus unlimited bookmarks and custom job alerts. The subscription fee helps us cover the costs of running the site, including hosting, geolocation services, and the time it takes to pull, clean, and curate thousands of jobs every week.

6. Can I cancel or pause my membership?

Yes, you can cancel right from your account settings. You will still have access until the end of your current billing period. You can also pause your subscription and restart it anytime. If you need help, just let us know and we will take care of it.

7. How many jobs do you have?

It fluctuates throughout the year, but we typically have around 10,000 openings across the U.S. at any given time. The mix changes daily as new roles are added and older ones are removed.

8. How do you source jobs and keep listings fresh?

Our platform uses custom algorithms to aggregate JD-Preferred and JD-Advantage roles from across the internet. Once collated, we reviewed to ensure quality, relevance, and alignment with the skills and values that JD holders bring. We make our best efforts to add new jobs daily and job posts are automatically removed after 30 days to reduce the number of dead jobs.

9. Can I preview the job board before subscribing?
