IT’S TIME TO LIVE AGAIN.

I met these delightful children on ARMONA ISLAND, Portugal.

They were so happy. There was no i phone or tablet – rather Shells……..which were used as part of a game they had made up……

Sadly by the time we come to the end of our formative years, around the age of seven, the narrow definition that our culture has imposed upon us has taken hold and even more sadly many take that definition into their adult lives.!

A play room in my house when my children were growing up…..I allowed them to paint on the walls, ceilings, doors etc…. When their friends visited they were invited to joiin in. As you can imagine the children loved it……..

I completely understand that not everyone has an extra room for this….and so inexpensive paper is great for artists of all ages…..

Beautiful children in Lebanon doing exactly that…and loving it. They are playing….

If we could time travel back to our earliest years when the world seemed like a kaleidoscope of colour and shapes..…think how exciting it would be……

From years of experience I guarantee that children of all ages love to watch someone paint or make something….and then they love to have a go themselves, A simple act like this could change the direction of a child’s life…

This little boy came with is mother to one of my art classes in Crickhowell….and found painting….apparently he never stopped………..

We are living in a very black and white world….governed by people who for the most part think the creative process as a waste of time……….

I am of the school that believes we should ‘follow our bliss’ which ultimately means are needs will be met – not necessarily our wants.

All the other stuff…running around looking for some form of gratification outside of ourselves pales into insignificance…..

THE MANY DIFFERENT WAYS TO SEE………

When thinking of an apple….we tend to think of the shiny red apple that a child might present to their teacher, or indeed the I iconic Apple Mac symbol.

Feeding our senses through the creative process……

‘Feeding our senses through the creative process, in all its many forms, can produce almost miraculous changes, which lead to a sense of well being and fulfilment’.    From my book ‘The Apple Exercise’.

There is no final Ta Da in my work….it is an ongoing process.

Given that everything is interconnected, my creative life doesn’t stop when I put down my brushes.      It flows and continues through my thoughts and actions in all areas of my life.

When I first exhibited in the early seventies – I was quickly picked up as a Wildlife Painter.    A reputable gallery took me into their stable, and it appeared that I was off to a flying start.

For fourteen years I painted large watercolours and oils in the wildlife genre.   My attempts to move towards new subject matter were not appreciated.

Ultimately I broke the cycle and began a new series of work in the mid eighties.     The point of this is to say that the creative process is exactly that….a process.

We are never finished…rather always beginning.

Now, many years later I am incorporating wildlife into my large oil paintings, which are about Interconnections…..
