Young Musicians Program
The Jazzschool Young Musicians Program is a comprehensive music education and performance program designed specifically for middle and high school instrumentalists and vocalists between the ages of 11 and 18.
Students work with professional artists and educators, strengthening performance skills, expanding knowledge of theory and improvisation, and learning about the foundations of jazz and related styles of music. Participants have access to weekly ensemble classes, tailored to the skill level of the ensemble members.
We also offer camps and intensives throughout the year, providing even more opportunities for young musicians to hone their skills and make music with peers.
Workshops
Visiting artists and Jazzschool faculty lead fascinating and practical workshops, typically held on Saturdays and Sundays in a single session of two or three hours in length. Past workshops have featured prominent, world-class jazz artists Patrick Bartley, Ron Carter, Peter Erskine, Donald Harrison, Sheila Jordan, Nguyên Lê, Dave Liebman, Bobby McFerrin, Janis Siegel, and countless others.
Concerts
Throughout the year, visiting artists, faculty, and students perform for the public, creating a real-world incubator for developing fresh ideas and gaining valuable audience exposure in the Bay Area scene. The school has hosted internationally renowned jazz recording and touring artists Terence Blanchard, Terri Lyne Carrington, Taylor Eigsti, Sara Gazarek, Jeremy Pelt, Sachal Vasandani, and many others.
