Jazz is a form of musical art that originated in the United States through the confrontation of blacks with European music. Parallel to this dichotomy between innovation and tradition, jazz has moved among the work of artists who have only sought the recognition of a small but select audience and others who have directed their efforts to a wider audience.
The musical identity of jazz is complex and can not be easily delimited. First, although the term is often used to refer to a musical language as it is done, for example, when speaking of classical music, jazz is actually a family of musical genres that share common characteristics, but not individually represent the complexity of gender as a whole.
