Java Card Security for HP ProtectTools, developed by Hewlett-Packard, adds smart card-based authentication and credential management to HP business PCs. It uses standards-compliant Java Card smart cards to store user credentials and cryptographic keys in tamper-resistant hardware, enabling strong two-factor authentication for Windows logon, VPN access, secure email, and HP ProtectTools components such as Credential Manager and Drive Encryption. The module streamlines card enrollment, PIN and certificate management, and works with integrated HP smart card readers and common external readers. For IT teams, it helps enforce security policies, reduce password risk, and support compliance by keeping private keys off the host and enabling centralized provisioning.
