Subject:[New Fic Post (yes, I know it's been years); Stargate Atlantis]: The Secret of Flight
Security:Public

**********************************************

Title: "The Secret of Flight"
Author: Ivorysilk
Artist skyblue_reverie
Word Count: Approx. 22.5K
Rating: M (for violence, including against children. Not for any sexual content, however, alas.)
Spoilers: Nothing specific. I just finished watching the series, because I am late to every party, so yes, if you haven't watched it all there are some spoilers. However, I'm assuming at this point, if you haven't watched it and read this anyway, you expect to be spoiled a bit.
Summary: “The secret of flight is this -- you have to do it immediately, before your body realizes it is defying the laws.”
― Michael Cunningham, ‘A Home at the End of the World'

AU. Born into a world where a rare genetic mutation means that some people are born with wings, John has succeeded in hiding his “shifter” status for all of his adult life. According to U.S. law, exposure of his true nature must strip him of every human right. When it's a choice between keeping his secret or Rodney's life, the choice is easy for John; it's the aftermath of that revelation that will change everything for not only John, but all of Atlantis.

Author’s Ramble: So, um, this links to AO3, but the short version is that I signed up for the McShep Big Bang, and have fallen for a fandom that is shiny and new for me, but old hat to most of the rest of the fandom world. Deca enticed me with her super relaxed super low pressure Big Bang, and this is what emerged. I thought I'd cross-post here, because why not, and also, it's the first day of a new year in some calendars, and posting new fic in a new fandom seems an excellent way to start.

Big Thanks to skyblue_reverie and nagi_schwarz for making this so much better than I could ever have managed, and for all their support and friendship. It's meant the world. They are the best, and all mistakes are mine; their suggestions were extremely kind and helpful.

Additional Thanks to anyone who reads, and thank you to everyone I've interacted with in the SGA fandom for being so kind to a newbie!

I just got settled from a couple of days of traveling, and I wanted to signal boost this post from LJ. I know many of the WC fandom have left LJ, so I wanted to make sure this reached everyone it could reach. Please pass it on anywhere you think it will help.

Subject:List of Fic
Security:Public

Well, I guess this is kind of like a masterlist for fic posted to this journal. Right. I'm a little worried about making my stuff easier to find, but I'm told this is a good thing, right? Right. In alphabetical order by fandom and then fic, with abbreviated summaries. (Right now it's just a list. I'll make links and stuff as I go along. WIPs are marked with an asterix after the title. If you'd like to read more or other fic in any of these fandoms, you could also check my memories--I have lists of fic I have read and enjoyed linked there.)

Just a quick note on feedback: If you are reading any of my stuff, and have the time and inclination, I love comments. Of any kind.

**********************************************

Title: “Fly Away Home”
Author: Ivorysilk
Word Count: Approx. 11.5K
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None. This is sort of very loosely movie-verse, because it’s all I know, but is like set in vague!verse, really.
Summary: Five times Tony tries to find his way home.
Author’s Ramble: So, um, I was going to do five good length fics for bingo, and started a bunch of fics (which were not so much with the finishing), and this was going to be for only one of the prompts (guess which one!) but then I ran out of time and panicked, and so ended up converting this into what I like to fondly believe is a five times fic that sort of uses each of the prompts in each of the ficlet sections, so basically, I cheated. I confess to cheating, I acknowledge I cheated, no banner for me (while each ficlet can be standalone, Steve isn’t in the first two at all really, and barely in the third, but I will at least get to say I gave it a try. ☺ Also, I was kind of happy by the fact it sort of worked, so.) Each of the sections does relate to a prompt in the bottom line, and I’ve labeled them for ease.

Also, this is my first ever post in this comm, and also, my first over Steve/Tony fic, and also, this is not beta’d because did I mention the running out of time? I’ll try again in round two! Anyway!

My card is above, and fic is below. Comments and criticisms and the helpful pointing out of embarrassing typos so I can fix them before someone else sees (and until I get this thing properly beta’d and edited, and yes, properly posted with proper links) are all gratefully received.

Big Thanks to hoosierbitch for agreeing to and making time to read this over very quickly at the last moment, even though I literally sent it to her a day late and told her she had like an hour, maybe less. Thank you also to dapperanachronism, who also agreed, very last minute, to read this over for me, with a rather similar last minute right before the deadline time constraint. They are the best, and all mistakes are mine; their suggestions were extremely kind and helpful.

Additional Thanks to anyone who reads, thank you to all the bingo organizers for doing all the work and letting me play, and thank you for all the people in chat who were and are so kind to a newbie to this comm!

Subject:Okay, so I haven't updated here in a while ... and I will!
Security:Public

I have posted a fic over the last year! It is an Avengers AU, and it is fic of fic! I guess I haven't posted a few of my fics here, and just done so directly to AO3, but both were fic of fic, so.

Also, the lovely kanarek made me art again for my birthday which I missed posting here, and I shall! It is gorgeous, and I suck at figuring how to repost, so I will.

Also, warning: I signed up for a Cap-IM bingo, and I have to post all my fills, so be prepared for a post flood. Apologies in advance.

Title: "Being an Artist Kid Can be Hard, But Having an Artist Kid Can be Worse, or: Five Times Peter told Neal he was Proud of Him"
Artist: The lovely and talented Evian-Fork! (ibrahilprang@gmail.com)
Author: Ivorysilk
Word Count: Approx. 7500.
Characters/Pairings: Canon pairings—Peter Burke, de-aged Neal, Elizbeth Burke.
Rating: PG
Warnings: Reference to child abuse. Reference to illness. Reference to character death. Lack of beta. Pretending I am on the West Coast and follow P.S.T. (seriously, this was done before midnight in my time zone, but it took me a while to post it, because I couldn't figure out the artwork html, and then gave up. I know it's posted wrong. Sorry! I'll fix it tomorrow, since this is already a half hour late.) Light angst and plenty of sticky, treacly sap.
Spoilers: N/A
Summary: Pretty much what it says on the tin. And despite the warnings, this really is pretty fluffy, I swear.
Thanks so much to Evian-Fork for the lovely, awesome artwork—I was thrilled to write for it, and I hope you like how the story turned out :-)

Thanks also, eternally, to the awesome and amazing hoosierbitch for taking time to cheerlead and encourage while I was despairing last night, and to Elr and RC, for always being encouraging and gracious, despite my many challenges, and to the mods for running this comm and setting all this up. No mention of the National Soy Museum (YET), although I promise Neal is commissioned to paint for them in the unwritten part. I shall fix this on edit!

Subject:[WC Fic] "Four Christmas Cards", rated M (Part one of one)
Security:Public

*********************************************

Title: Four Christmas Cards
Author: Ivorysilk
Rating: M.
Summary: "At Christmas time you will be allowed to mail (4) Christmas cards."
Warning: Nothing specific, I don’t think. Set between seasons one and into early season two.
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, or this universe. However, I am clearly not above using either of these for my own nefarious purposes. I am writing this for fun, and because I have no self-control and must play in other peoples’ sandboxes.
Thanks: Many thanks go to hoosierbitch, who encouraged and cajoled and beta’d for me—she did a fabulous job, and all remaining mistakes are mine.

Thanks also to qwertyfaced, who let me use her Alcatraz rules prompt card (I’d post a picture so you’d see what I mean, if I knew how to do that) and for brainstorming with me in an airport (for her fic, really, but then I got a bunny and she was kind enough to let me use it), and who brought them in the first place. Finally, thanks to rabidchild, for having the brilliant idea to use the cards as fic prompts in the first place, and for running this fest! (I am sorry I am so late—I actually wrote this a week or two ago for my posting date, but wasn’t happy with a part of it and so didn’t post. Hoosierbitch finally prodded me into looking at posting it, which gave me the impetus to fix what was bugging me. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy it.)

Any comments will, as always, be gratefully received. Thanks for reading, and Happy Holidays!

It's the last day to sign up ... the exchange is super-fun, the mods are the nicest and most accommodating mods you could wish for, and everyone is so nice you absolutely want to write for them and hey, it gives you a deadline to write to!  What more could you wish?

(Also, I just signed up, and I need to come play in my sandbox and stress and procrastinate with me.  Yes, you!  You know you want to ...)

(ALSO, look!  I have just figured out how to post images!  I haven't done that in YEARS ... its much easier than it used to be!  Whee!  Thanks Elr.)

Subject:Reminder: Writing Chat tomorrow at Noon!
Security:Public

Just a quick reminder that I'm hosting a moderated chat on wcwu tomorrow afternoon. It will be a structured chat, with prompts every half hour that you have 25 min to write to, quick break, and then another prompt goes out. Sort of a (hopefully) fun writing exercise just to shake things up a bit this long weekend (for those of us with long weekends). I hope you can join us! Chat runs from noon till about 1:45, and then turns into a free for all for the regular Sunday afternoon chatting madness. :-) The fics will be posted on the comm in a separate but locked post, just to see what everyone came up with in the allotted time. After that, everyone is free to take their fics and post or transform and post whereever you like.

Subject:New Year's Fandom Resolution!
Security:Public

So, this is probably way too much information about me and my neuroses, but one of my resolutions is to stop stressing about stupid things.

To wit, replying to comments/dealing with deadlines/finishing things I'm supposed to finish.

Now, there was a time when I used to comment religiously to all comments on my LJ or to my fic posted whereever, religiously, right when I got them. That was in the before time, before I left much feedback and lurked a lot more and posted a lot less (not that I post much now, anyway) so I interacted less with anyone, AND before I could randomly check LJ when in a grocery store lineup on my phone, or in a very boring meeting, or what have you. The problem is, these places are not very conducive to actually replying, and given that I often get back home late from work or whatever I may or may not be usefully doing, and then the emails show up as read, I often forget to go back and comment.

Now, sometimes, I remember in a day or so, and just force myself to comment. It's one thing when one has first seen the comment--I force myself not to overthink and just babble-reply with the first thing that comes into my mind, stupid as it may be. It's how I deal with leaving feedback too--I try not to overthink. On the other hand, if too much time has passed, then I start to think. What should I say? How should I say it? Another week could pass while I put off saying anything at all. It doesn't matter what the comment is--it could be something nice and innocuous, something slightly less nice or maybe something thoughtfully critical (which I do appreciate, for the record), or something that made me blush and walk around the house with a grin on my face for hours (yes, I do respond like that: Someone liked my fic! WOW! I can't stop grinning, good thing no one can see me!). Anyway, after two weeks, its game over--then I start procrastinating cuz I'm mad I'm so lame it has taken me so long to respond. And long after anyone else but me cares, by the time people have gotten upset and angry and then simply moved on (in the case of missed deadlines or whatever), I am still stressed out.

WELL. Over the next few weeks or months, I am going to go through my LJ and respond to comments. Even ones left months and months ago that I might have missed. I will repost things I was supposed to and complete memes and fics I owe (yeah, I know this) I have not done, and then maybe even complete wips that have stagnated. I'm sure this will confuse some people. I will not care. I WILL DO THIS. And then I'll still feel guilty it has taken so long, but at least it won't remain on my to do list.

Take that, stupid procrastinating mind. Also, this is an open invite. If there was something I owe you, something you are still waiting for, something I was supposed to do--feel free to leave a comment below. Most likely, it is on my list of things outstanding to do--there are a couple of big ones--but the reminder (esp. if you want to change or amend your request) will not go amiss.

1. I have just signed up for this: Run the Con. If you are reading this, you should know that I think you should sign up for this too. Because it would be fun. And because I want you to. And because.

2. I also signed up for the whitecollarhc's Advent Fic Fest. See note to #1, and apply that here too, if you haven't already signed up.

3. I still haven't completed my responses to the meme I posted like over a month ago, even though all the answers are done in draft and all I need to do is format and post each response (I wrote out my answers when I had no net access, and then just never actually sat down to format and post, because, well, I haven't. Yet.).

4. I have had less than no time lately to eat or sleep, and now I have committed to all kinds of writing. I am clearly insane.

Okay, now that I've *finally* posted my very overdue wcpairings fic (awesome exchange and the mods were wonderful; I am just disorganized and lame), I can gush about the (very punctual) lovely fic I got. It's OT3, which I totally appreciate, because frith-in-thorns doesn't usually write OT3 and she absolutely did for me but what I absolutely adore about this fic is that this is an honest-to-bob love story, gentle and real and more awesomely all about Elizabeth--and different. It's hard, in this fandom at this point to do much that is really fresh without going AU--and I love my cliche!fic, and I write it all the time--but this is beautiful, and original, and gentle but not less compelling for it, and wonderful. Go read it here, and tell her how awesome it is:

Subject:[WC Fic] "Cake or Death", rated PG-13 (Part 1 of 1)
Security:Public

**********************************
Title: Cake or Death
Author: Ivorysilk
Rating: PG
Characters: Elizabeth, Neal, Peter, and a bit of Mozzie and June
Word Count: About 4500
Spoilers: None, and everything up to season three, really.
Summary:
As soon as Elizabeth Burke left the shop, Mozzie turned to him and hissed, "You are way out of your league."

Neal smiled. "Oh, harmless flirting. It’s like a dance."

“No,” snapped Mozzie. “Her husband is an FBI agent. There is no dance. You better not even be on her dance card. No dancing for you.”

Pairing(s): Pre- P/E/N.
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, or this universe. I am writing this for my own self-indulgent fun, and because, like Neal, I clearly covet other people's things, even if they will never be my own.
Thanks:To jrosemary and elrhiarhodan for the beta; as well as to rabidchild for helping me to picture Mozzie as a baker. Title from the Eddie Izzard vid.
Author’s Notes:: Written for hoosierbitch for the wcpairings for the prompt: Neal and Mozzie run a bakery, and Elizabeth orders from them all the time for her catering business--and brings her husband in one day to try the sandwiches (or something that involves a flour-dusted Neal). OT3 or gen or whatever is fine. :)

B, I loved your prompts and was really excited to write for you, and then I picked this prompt, got stuck; started another one, got stuck; and then just whined at everyone that would listen for days. This is the one that eventually got done, and I am so sorry this is so late, but I hope you like it (because of how I adore you, as you know), and eventually, eventually I will write you the other one, too.

Comments, positive or negative, are treasured. Thanks for reading.
