"Hey y'all. This is Street. I can't take your call or typically my quadraplegic ass is just too slow to pick up. Leave a message."

LINK: Strangely, it felt like longer than just a couple of weeks since Tim fell ill and landed in hospital. Everyone had been up in the air since it happened, waiting for any news, and time had just slipped away but rather than feeling like it passed quick, it seemed to drag. But after a lot of examinations and medical discussions, Tim was allowed to be discharged, albeit with a pile of medications and strict restrictions and instructions. Again, Jason and Billy ended up having not-so-polite and heated words. Billy was being a stubborn prick and the guilt wasn't letting him just back off and accept that going back to Dillon wasn't the best thing for Tim. But Jason, in his typical QB style, did eventually get through to the older Riggins brother. It was true that the now Austen-based crowd of Tim's friends were just in a better place to take care of him now, and it seemed to be the scenario that put Tim in the better frame of mind. Every time Dillon was brought up, it was like a depression set in. Going back there just wasn't the right thing at that point, which was something the others really understood. They had all been in that boat at some point.

Now he was finally back at the Austin home, and all he could really do was stand there and watch in amusement as Taylor fluffed up the three pillows waiting on the sofa for him and made sure the light blanket there wasn't creased...

[Follows THIS, THIS and THIS]

It was the morning after Matt had left for Dillon, and Sam realised how much she really didn't like waking up without him next to her. She also knew there was a saying about not knowing what you have until it's gone - but she did know! And she hadn't let it go. She was in love with Matt, she'd even told him, but he still left. He still looked like he'd just been told she was going to leave him for Tim, and that wasn't what had happened at all.

Sam had struggled when the confession had tumbled from Tim's lips, but in the end she knew where her heart was and it wasn't with the number thirty-three any more. So why did she feel like she'd done wrong? It was a few hours before she even dragged herself out of bed, and even longer before she made it out of the room to go into the kitchen in search of coffee. She wasn't even hungry. She was just glad she had the time off work so that she didn't need to worry about smiling at all the stupid customers when all she really wanted to do was tell them to go fuck themselves.

She needed out of retail.

As soon as her beverage was made she had every intention of crawling back into her bed and hiding, but as she shuffled past the main room she realised Jason was sitting there alone...Collapse )

It was times like this, that everything felt like it became a balancing act. One day, it felt like it was taking endless hours for time to tick over while they waited for news, and the next, there wasn't enough hours in the day to see to everything. It was even more of a juggle now that Tim was awake. Jason wanted to be there for his friend like he promised, and he would do his best to keep his word, but at the same time, he had a family of his own that needed his time too. A loving, caring fiancee carrying his baby, who was still trying to work to make ends meet with Jason only managing to nab some casual hours coaching a kids' football team at a local yet small school. He was still looking for something more permanent that paid better, which is what he was seeing to right when Tim had fallen ill.

With Taylor working, and the shared vigil at the hospital amongst Tim's family and friends, Jason knew he had to spend whatever time they had together actually together. After getting some more info on epilepsy from the rehab unit at the hospital as planned, Jason left a message with the staff of the ICU to let Tim know he would be back a bit later and why. Tim was sleeping again, which wasn't a bad thing. His body was trying to heal and Jason remembered how much he had slept in the wake of his accident, from both sheer mental and physical exhaustion. As it was, right now, he was feeling a drained tiredness setting in all over again. Worry would do that to someone. He also knew he was desperately missing Taylor, the niggles between them after their failed wedding and the pregnancy news breaking seemed like a distant memory... and almost stupid. It was easier when they were on the same page, and he would do anything it took to make sure they stayed that way.

After being greeted at the door of their shared Austin home by Mrs MacKenzie who was spending a few days in Austin to help Taylor out, Jason wheeled himself tiredly to their bedroom, relieved to find his fiancee lying in be reading a book and resting on her day off like she promised him she would. "Hey, darlin'," he greeted her quietly with a smile as he pushed up to the side of the bed. He started to pull his jacket off, trying to get a glimpse of what she was reading. "Good book?"
