My comicsbigbang is posted!

The life and loves of Alan Scott in over 10K words is here.

merelymine's awesome, incredible, amazing art (WOW!) is here.

I'll be reading and commenting over the weekend. I WILL READ YOUR STORIES!

Now, I just need to edit and post my remix and finish my lgbtfest fic. Then, I'm planning on taking a break from fic exchanges/challenges for the summer.

Link me to things I've missed!? Please. *pouts*

Hello, Life! I like you again. I suspect this has to do with attending my first baseball game of the season on Wednesday - a sweet little pitcher's duel the M's won and we got to watch from right behind first base in the front row. I've never sat in the front row at a Major League game before - it was seriously awesome. Ashley is learning to love baseball and this is a great and wondrous thing. :)

I defaulted on my merry_marvels assignment. RL stresses combined with a harsh writer's block. I tried three different prompts and came up with three woefully incomplete drafts, but sadly no story. So, yeah, bit off more than I could chew there. :/

In the meantime, comicsbigbang is due in a week! Yikes. Better get crackin'. *panics* Remix assignments are out and I'm really happy with my assignment - lots to choose from in overlapping fandoms. The author has written some of my favorite stories, but ironically I've got a bunny already for an intriguing story I'd previously missed. Sweet. And I've decided not to worry about finishing my lgbtfest story until after I get the remix done. *crosses fingers*

I've been holding my shows off as incentive to getting fic finished, so I'm four weeks behind on Smallville (including today) and two weeks behind on Doctor Who. Though, I've been watching Spartacus with my husband and that's a guilty pleasure.

Thanks to my mother, my brain has been hijacked by Firefly. *headdesk* I really don't need complicated, plotty gen fic with canon pairings and Simon/Kaylee without any babies, dammit, but I want it and it doesn't seem to exist. Ugh! Being suddenly fannish about a show that closed its canon eight years ago is frustrating.

Also, comics were good this week, especially - I can't believe I'm saying this - Marvel, but Hercules, and Ult-Spidey (They went there!) were perfect and against my better judgement, I loved Who Won't Wield the Shield (Hilarious!). O_o

Greg Rucka is Leaving Comics to focus on novels.

So, that's why no Batwoman title. *cries*

I suppose this also means I can give up hope of Lois Lane: Investigative Reporter by Rucka/Saiz. Totally a dream comic.

In entirely unrelated notes:

  • DC and Marvel are both qualifying fandoms for Remix this year. The finished fic isn't due until May 9th, so a week and a half after comicsbigbang. It was really hard to narrow down the four fandoms I'm willing to remix. Sign-up is at AO3 until March 31st!
  • I also want to finish a fic for lgbtfest this year. I've already spotted two prompts that are particularly inspiring. I've put in my prompts; make sure you put in yours! Prompting runs through March 24th!
  • My latest month recc'ing for crack_van is almost over. There is one person signed-up for DC COMICS after me. Please consider recc'ing for DC!
  • I finally have a handle on my comicsbigbang... I think. Now, just to finish it and my merry_marvels fic on time.
  • There is an annual fan convention in Western Washington: bitchinparty. I did not know this until too late to go this year. *pouts* Who's up for coming next year?
  • I have my first RPS in Omar Vizquel/Ozzie Guillen. I may need therapy, but I'd do practically anything for fic. *hangs head in shame*

Not a lot of commentary, just the scans, but I'll be happy to tell stories in comments. :)

The first time I tried to scan these, I failed and saved to the wrong harddrive at Kinko's. *headdesk* This time, we didn't get as nice a scanner, so please forgive the lousy scan quality.

I've included all Ashley's and my commissioned sketches from this year, as well as those I received in 2008 and 2009, as I never did get around to posting those. :)

Emerald City ComiCon 2010 Day One
misc: ECCC market foot - NOT FOR SHARIN

This weekend is Emerald City ComiCon! I'm going to try and update for each Saturday and Sunday separately, as I completely failed at posting a write-up last year. I apologize up front for any inadvertant typos.

ECCC has a reputation as a low-key convention. Not so, this year. With Stan Lee, Leonard Nimoy and Geoff Johns (finally!) on the guest list, it was jam-packed and in the words of several tweeting creators "crazy busy". I found that was true for me, as well. In 2008 and 2009, I spent both days attending panels, getting a few commissions, doing a little shopping and actually talking with the creators. I had even had time for a leisurely lunch. This year, I spent Saturday attending two panels with no time for lunch, requested commissions, and attended two panels in between working my way through crowds and standing in lines. Next year, ECCC officially adds another day and will expand to Friday. It feels weird to be one of the grown-up conventions. O_o

I chose DC Nation over Leonard Nimoy (they were scheduled concurrently) because DC Nation is always fun and I actually had a question to ask. There's already a brief report on DC Nation posted over on Comics Alliance and reposted for discussion at noscans_daily. A major reason I chose to attend this panel is that in my experience, DC Nation is much more lively, fun and friendly than portrayed in the comics news outlets. So, here's my version of 2010's first DC Nation:Collapse )

I also attended the Green Lantern panel with Geoff Johns, Pete Tomasi, Doug Mahnke, Patrick Gleeson and moderated by group editor, Eddie Berganza.

All Will Be Well!Collapse )

Most of my day was spent commissioning sketches, though sadly Sean Phillips and Skottie Young both cancelled. No scans yet, but a report on what we're getting and artists' 2010 rates:Collapse )

Finally, toward the very end of the day, I had a nice little chat with Sterling Gates:Collapse )

Sunday, I plan on actually talking with creators, attending Sunday Conversation (LOVE that panel) and perhaps the Superman panel, and hopefully getting a chance to shake Nimoy's hand and thank him for Star Trek.
