Disgusted with LJ

I'm thoroughly disgusted with LJ and the whole, let's cleanse the world of gays and politics trend. I'm not sure what's going to happen here, whether I'm going to delete, move all my stuff to private or what. I'm not sure if things are safe when they're locked anyway? Ugh, guess I need to get my magnifying glass and go over the terms again.

I wonder how many people moved to DW in the last week or so.

CANNOT WAIT

Five second spot for "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back". SO READY for this movie! Four months to the day... No time at all!

Probably going to have to avoid other social media for a good... oh four months after today. The full trailer comes out tomorrow. Trying to hide is going to be hard. One of my coworkers LOVES Reacher. He's read all 17 books and he loves Tom in the role despite the height difference. Lol, we connect a lot over this. Plus the fact that he's Tom's birthday twin. :p

Good Times!!

So! My CD copy of Good Times! has arrived! Review time! First of all, it's not going to be the kind of detailed reviews that we used to do in Monkees fandom. XD I haven't heard it enough times for that, but get back to me in 10-15 years, and I'll be able to delve in with the best of them. Just going to give impressions I guess. I actually have no idea how I'm going to set it up, I'm winging it. DU FINE.

Pictures and outside stuffCollapse )

Songs

General: This is a great, classically Monkees album. Most of the songs are performed by Micky, but there's a good selection of Mike and Peter, and they included a "new" Davy song, a la the Beatles' "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love".

The tone of the songs are very true to the music they played during their "heyday" as it were. As a contrast, their other reunion album, "Justus", was much more exploratory, and for the most part very different from their original style. I like that about it. It's kind of cool that this would fit right in with "The Birds, The Bees and the Monkees", or even "More of the Monkees", and you wouldn't feel a sense of shift, like if you listened to "MotM", and then busted out "Pool It!" or even "Head". It's not easy to get the feel of your original selves without sounding forced or fake, and they managed it. Kudos! If you like the Monkees, I would say buy it, and not just "for completion". You will enjoy yourself.

Oh, and there are plenty of Beatles references in the sound (and sometimes the words) on several of these songs. The last song is really absolutely blatant, they're not even trying to hide it. Or rather, they are trying to emphasize it. And, for the record, I find nothing wrong with that. I think it's kind of fun how bold they are with it, just like they were bold with it when they first came out. When they decided to make a reference, tney made a reference. XD

Wherein Michelle decides not to do a play-by-play review, then pretty much does a play-by-play reviewCollapse )

Summary-ish Stuff:
Would I recommend this? Yes! If you're a Monkees fan, you will enjoy it. You will have fun, you will not regret your purchase. Sadly, for obvious reasons there is only one Davy song, but I enjoyed "Pool It!" even though Mike was absent, so hopefully that isn't a deal breaker for most. Also, you will probably find yourself breaking out the albums and the TV show, because you suddenly remember how much fun you had when you just allowed yourself to be silly. XD

Happy Pride!

It's Pride weekend, and we're actually at home. We normally try to go out of town this weekend, to avoid the crowds and the hustle, but after all the mess that's happened with the car this year (long story short, I'm $6,000+ deeper in debt than before because my car did the thing and I can't afford to go $15-25k in debt to buy a new one), there's no way we can vacay this month.

We'll see how this goes. I'm already pretty much resigned to sitting inside my house, with only Rosie and Eat24 as my companion. Which is good, because we've already had the Dyke March on our street. I simultaneously felt the pain of the drivers, and the pride of the marchers. We would have gone, too, except... Eat24 just brought mah dinner. Nommin' before walkin' - always.

This is going to be interesting, though... Not sure what's going to happen if we actually do have to leave the house for some reason.

Lol Goals

There's nothing like setting a specific goal to make you realize how many other things you need to work on, and to spring forth new ideas into your head. Decided I was going to finish Vengeance by the end of the summer. Wrote brand new Mission: Impossible TV series fic, read through a bunch of my own and Rosie's AOS fic (remembered how much I loved it before Into Darkness pissed me off), looked at my epic TOS novel (not finished, and I'm at 107,000+ words) and decided I need to finish it soon. Went back to editing my latest Mission: Impossible movie fic.

Oh, yeah. And added LITERALLY ONE SENTENCE to Vengeance.

Thanks, brain. Thanks for your cooperation.

Cutesy Tom childhood stories

Lol, I saw a cute story in a Tom interview about how the first thing he did after making his first movie was to pay his sisters' college tuition (he has four sisters).

When he was young, they didn't have a lot of money, and it got worse when his mother divorced his abusive douche-bag father, so he had to work from the time he was a small boy. He delivered papers, and to cover more ground, he got one of his sisters to help, and promised he would pay her back. After "Risky Business", he bought her a car. :-) I can't find the video interview where I first saw these stories, but here's a link to an article that briefly mentions it.

I also found a link to an article that talks about one of his other early jobs - bagging ice. Lol, the video where I first saw it was funny and so charming, and he talked about the fact that the boss forgot he was there and locked him in the freezer. Aw!! Man, I gotta find that interview, it was too funny.
