The London Horror Society Evolves into 'The Independent Horror Society' for a United community Experience Across the UK

We are proud to be able to finally announce that as of today, we are rebranding ourselves as The Independent Horror Society!

This name change reflects our evolution beyond the boundaries of London and our commitment to uniting horror lovers from across the UK and beyond.

The Loudest Voice For Independent horror in the UK

Our mission is to unite horror fans and its creators, including filmmakers, writers and theatre producers, to help shape the future of indie horror for the better.

As well as helping fans of grassroots horror stay at the forefront of all important news, and events, we also give them active role in shaping what they want to see. With our IHS Creators Fund, all members can vote on which projects receive funding, letting them champion those that they believe in and want to see.

And then, through our Indie Film Showcases, we bring the best new horror films to screens all over the UK, creating a convenient way for fans to see fresh, exciting content that they wouldn’t normally get to see in a cinema environment.

By better connecting creators and the incredibly supportive fanbase, we can push indie horror in bold directions while creating a more sustainable funding and distribution model.

So join us now to help shape a more connected, inclusive future for independent horror, where fans and creators thrive together!

How We Help Filmmakers and other creators

We’re here to support the creation of independent film, theatre, literary projects and more by uniting creators and the fans who shape the horror genre.

But as well as connecting them with fans, we’re also here to help foster the career growth for seasoned or budding industry professionals of all experience levels.

From hosting in-person mixers and online networking sessions, to informative training sessions and Q&As, we’re committed to helping anyone with a creative vision bring it to life.

Joining as a creator member is free and comes with valuable perks: gain access to our Product Centre, where we review and rate top industry tools; submit your projects for review, see our range of informative training guides, and get priority access to all of our in-person and online events.

What’s more, you can list for free in our IHS Directory, that connects creators, cast and crew from every corner of the horror industry. Once your listing is published, it will be searchable to members of IHS Pro, our premium network filled with passionate horror fans, professionals, and industry insiders actively seeking fresh collaborators and crew.

The FEAR Films $2M USD Film3 Global Incubator Fund

The Independent Horror Society has been committed to exploring and developing new ways for grassroots filmmakers to gain access to funding for their projects. And we are delighted to be able to announce our partnership with the much-loved blockchain horror game developer FEAR, on a brand-new funding initiative: The FEAR Horror Incubator.

The FEAR Incubator has successfully incubated two horror films, with one recently wrapped on production, and another in the early stages of development. However, this round brings a significant change:

FEAR has boosted the total investment pool to $2,000,000 (£1.5m), with no cap on any one project applying for funding. So whether your vision requires a modest £1,000 or a substantial £50,000, FEAR is dedicated to providing the necessary funds. (However please note, projects seeking larger amounts must provide clear justifications for their expenditure.)

the 666 film challenge Part IV

The Independent Horror Society’s 666 Film Challenge is back for a fourth year!

The challenge is to create a chilling horror film in just 66 hours and 6 minutes over the bank holiday weekend at the end of May.

Before the clock starts ticking, you’ll receive an email at 9pm (UK time) on Friday 22nd May with the official brief and rules. Please note that no creative work, including writing and composing, can start until then.

The 666  Film Challenge is open to people of all skill levels and all mediums. Whether you’re a seasoned filmmaker or a first-time horror creator, this is your chance to show off your skills and terrify our judges.

Our Indie Film SHOWCASE

We have launched the Indie Film Showcase to do what we love best — bringing incredible short genre films from hugely talented filmmakers, to the wonderful UK horror community. And in June we hosted a brand-new line up of short films in London, showcasing a superb range of projects from all over the globe.

But with so much passion and hard work having gone into each and every film on the line up, we want as many folk as possible to see them. Which is why we’re delighted to be able to take them out on the road !

The IHS Creators Fund

The IHS Creators Fund is designed to provide financial backing to creatives working in all forms of horror media and art, from authors and filmmakers to playwrights and visual artists.

It operates on a community-driven model, with a percentage of profits from IHS events, screenings, merchandise sales, and more being allocated to the fund.

Once the fund reaches £1,000, it will open to new grant applications, and all IHS members, regardless of their membership tier, will have an equal vote in selecting the worthy recipient!

The Fund not only helps to empower individual creatives by providing much-needed funding, but also helps build a stronger, more connected community within the horror genre.
