Steve Simpson lives in Sydney. He’s never been able to work out exactly what he does, although he’d probably feed the cat if he had one.
“The Texture of Silence,” an illustrated prose poetry collection from Independent Legions, in collaboration with legendary Australian author Eugen Bacon, was released in December 2023. And in 2024, Simpson was a finalist for the Ditmar Awards (artworks), thanks to his “Texture of Silence” illustrations.
In 2022, Meerkat Press published a two-volume set of his poetry and short stories, “The Purpose of Reality,” both with artworks. His story “The Beautiful Horizon” in The Purpose of Reality: Solar was shortlisted for the 2022 Aurealis Awards in the Fantasy Short Story Category.
As well, he’s sold over 35 poems and short stories to anthology and magazine publishers, and in 2013, he won the Canadian “In Places Between” writing competition.
In the visual arts, works created with his image evolution software, part of his beyond-AI project, have been shown at many exhibitions, and he recently developed a unique system for generating art from mental states via EEG (brainwaves).
In the sciences, he’s published over 210 research papers, most recently in clinical neurology, and he holds several patents. He’s received various awards, and the inaugural Peter Doherty Innovation Prize, valued at $A100 000, was won by WeldPrint™, Simpson’s technology to make vehicles safer.
A monograph, “The Origins of Time,” will appear in 2026, and he likes wood ducks, doesn’t everyone? In the ether underworld, he’s @inconstantlight.
