An initiative from the Global South reimagining the energy transition through gender justice, South–South cooperation, and institutional transformation.

The shift we are driving

A just energy transition expands who shapes the conversation.

When policymakers, practitioners, educators, researchers and innovators work together, energy systems become more inclusive, resilient and transformative. When women and diverse actors participate fully, new perspectives and solutions emerge. When training systems strengthen institutions (not only individuals) change becomes sustainable.

The energy transition is multidimensional. It is about capacities, narratives and power.

Transformation happens when those who design policies, teach, train, research and build solutions understand their own systems, question assumptions, and connect across sectors and territories. This is the space Impulsouth helps create.

A space where institutions collaborate across sectors and regions.

A space where learning strengthens systems, not only individuals.

A space where leadership expands and multiplies.

Impulsouth connects and strengthens the institutions shaping the energy transition, enabling change to grow from within the Global South.

Through concrete mechanisms of collaboration, knowledge, learning and innovation, and research, this transformation becomes practical, scalable and sustainable.

Our work

We expand who shapes the conversation

Impulsouth enhances the impact of capacity-building initiatives through an active, policy-oriented, and sustainable Community of Practice (CoP). Co-designed with capacity builders, this CoP will feature its own governance structure to foster virtual exchanges and develop and replicate a Training of Trainers (ToT) program. The CoP will bring together universities, NGOs, enterprise support organizations, sectoral associations, and regional and international policy technical associations to strengthen their role in a just and equitable energy transition.

We transform how the energy transition is learned and taught

Impulsouth will strengthen national institutions and accelerate gender-just energy transitions through targeted regranting. The grants aim to support institutional consolidation, programmatic growth, and innovation in the work done by just energy transition capacity multipliers and innovation ecosystem enablers.

We connect and share knowledge openly

Impulsouth will amplify South-South learning on capacity building by facilitating knowledge sharing through an open-access platform. This platform will serve as a hub for exchanging information within the Community of Practice (CoP) and connecting with a broader network, fostering collaboration and the dissemination of best practices.

We bring these voices into global decision-making spaces

Impulsouth implements a global dialogue strategy to inform policymakers and issue recommendations developed by the Community of Practice (CoP). The CoP shares lessons and works closely with Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) focal points to ensure that its insights and recommendations are effectively communicated and drive meaningful policy action.

Research Impulsouth

Research

We generate the knowledge that enables just transitions

Impulsouth advances applied research to close knowledge gaps that limit a just energy transition in the Global South. Through the Bridging Knowledge and Practice for Inclusive Energy Transitions Fund, the initiative supports research projects that generate practical, context-driven evidence to strengthen capacity-building efforts across partner institutions. These research findings feed directly into the Community of Practice (CoP), enriching learning processes, informing the Training of Trainers curriculum.
