Most leaders underestimate the cost of the gap between who they are and how they are seen.
Not because they lack capability. Because capability and perceived authority are not the same thing — and in the environments where leadership is tested most severely, the gap between them determines everything. The deal that doesn’t close. The room that doesn’t follow. The reputation that doesn’t recover. The seat that goes to someone else.
Since 1989, Image Group International has existed to close that gap.
Not through surface-level positioning. Not through social media tactics or personal branding in the conventional, commoditised sense of that phrase. Through the rigorous, long-term alignment of identity, behaviour, communication, and presence that produces the kind of authority that holds — under scrutiny, under pressure, and over time.
That is the work. That is why it matters. And that is what nearly four decades of doing it at the highest levels — across industries, cultures, crises, and career inflection points — has produced that no newcomer to this field can replicate.
Authority is not an aesthetic. It is a decision. And it is built, not claimed.

Known as THE IMAGEMAKER™, founder and chief architect of IGI’s vision, Jon brings decades of personal branding experience.
— OUR STORY
Jon’s Story:
From Dior to
Authority Branding™
Jon Michail
Founder and Group CEO, Image Group International
Some people talk about branding.
And some have lived it.
Jon Michail has spent more than three decades at the intersection of image, influence, leadership, and enterprise — not from theory, but from the arena.
His journey began in fashion. During the 1980s and early 1990s, Jon emerged as one of Australia’s leading designers, winning multiple Australian Fashion Industry Awards, including Young Designer of the Year.
Following his work with the Christian Dior brand, he launched a national manufacturing enterprise and a chain of upscale menswear boutiques.
What those years in fashion taught Jon was not style. It was the mechanics of perception — how a garment, a presentation, a brand identity could change how a person was received before they said a single word. How the external, when aligned with genuine substance, amplified everything. And how the external, when misaligned, undermined everything — regardless of the quality underneath.
How many genuinely talented people have you encountered who still cannot succeed — because they are simply not believed, trusted, or valued by the people who matter most?
He watched talented designers fail because the world never understood what they were offering. He watched brands collapse not from lack of product but from lack of coherent identity. And he watched leaders — in boardrooms, in negotiations, in politics, in public moments — lose the room not because they were wrong, but because they had never learned to make their authority legible to the people who needed to see it.
Merit, unfortunately, will only take you so far. That is not a cynical observation. It is an honest one — and it is the observation that became a conviction. The conviction became IGI.
The insight driving thirty-seven years of client work is this: the leaders who shape industries, build lasting organisations, and command genuine respect are not always the most talented people in the room. They are the ones whose identity, communication, and presence are so precisely congruent that their capability is impossible to miss.
Closing that gap — between who a leader is and how they are seen — is the work Jon has dedicated his professional life to. Not as a theory. As a practice, tested daily in the highest-stakes environments available.

Our Values
What we believe leadership is for…
IGI was built on a conviction that goes beyond professional performance.
Leadership, at its highest expression, is not personal advancement. It is stewardship — of people, of organisations, of the communities and environments that depend on those with influence, using it well.
This belief shapes every engagement. This is why IGI works with purpose-led organisations alongside commercial enterprises. The work addresses character and values alongside communication and presence. Why the standard held for every client is not “are you more visible?” but “are you leading in a way that compounds positively — for your organisation, your people, and beyond?”
We acknowledge the First and continuing custodians of the lands on which we live, work, and lead — and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging. Indigenous stewardship reflects principles that run through everything IGI does: continuity, accountability, contribution, and care for what comes after you.
These are not peripheral values. They are the foundation of what authentic authority means — and what IGI has always believed leadership, done well, can produce.
Authority that endures is authority exercised with responsibility. A reputation that lasts is a reputation earned through integrity. Leadership that matters is leadership that leaves things better than it found them.
That is the standard. It applies to our clients. It applies to us.
“The real work has always been people first, followed by systems.”

Authority Is Built Through Alignment
Jon is a creative thinker who integrates logic and practicality. His work blends aesthetics with psychology, strategy with human insight. He approaches leadership holistically — aligning identity, communication, values, and conduct so they move in disciplined harmony.
Influence, to Jon, is not performance. It is character expressed consistently.
- Gravitas with humanity
- A lived philosophy grounded in practicality
- Reputation is earned daily
- Authority compounds over time
- Leadership is measured by impact
His advisory work has taken him to New York, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and across Australia, earning international recognition including International Image-Maker of the Year in the United States.
Through his Institute for Image Management, he launched China’s first Corporate Image Diploma in partnership with Peking University in 2007. To date, more than 400 consultants globally have been trained through his frameworks.
Today, IGI operates as a senior advisory collective, bringing together a team whose combined experience exceeds 138 years across leadership, communication, strategy, enterprise, and human behaviour.
Global Reach. Applied Enterprise. Collective Wisdom
He Builds Durable Authority
Image Group International stands today not as a branding agency, but as a reputation architecture advisory — built on lived experience, disciplined thinking, global exposure, applied enterprise, and collective wisdom.
Jon believes in earned visibility. Strategic visibility. Visibility supported by substance.
And for leaders operating in an era of volatility, that distinction matters.
Why Image Group International

The IGI Difference
Most advisors focus on:
- Visibility
- Content
- Short-term positioning
IGI focuses on:
- Authority
- Alignment
- Long-term reputation legacy architecture
What This Means for You
You are not engaging:
- A marketing provider
- A content agency
- A theoretical coach
You are engaging a trusted confidante who has the “runs on the board” and understands:
- How reputation impacts commercial outcomes
- How authority is built and sustained
- How perception operates under pressure
In business, reputation is not a soft asset.
It is a strategic advantage — or a hidden liability.
The question is not whether you have one.
It is whether it is working for you,
or being defined without you.

You are probably not here because everything is fine and you are simply curious.
You are here because you are operating at a level where the gap between your capability and your perceived authority has a real cost — in opportunity, in influence, in the kind of impact you know you are capable of and are not yet fully producing.
That gap is closeable. It has been closed consistently across nearly four decades of client work with leaders who were serious enough about their next level to invest in the work it requires.
IGI’s engagements are deliberately selective. Limited in number and bespoke in design, they are reserved for leaders who are prepared to engage with the process seriously and thoughtfully. The greatest outcomes are achieved by those who bring a clear willingness to examine where they are today, challenge what may be holding them back, and commit to what comes next.
What it always begins with is honesty. About where you are. About what the gap is actually costing you. And about whether this is the right work for this moment in your career.
Jon and the IGI team have had this conversation thousands of times over thirty-seven years. It is never the same twice — because the leader sitting across from him never is.
If you are ready for that conversation, it is ready for you.
What comes next?
A direct, honest exchange about where you are, what you are navigating, and whether this is the right partnership for this moment in your career.
That conversation begins here.
