Hello everyone!

There is a new tutorial up at Icondoit! for your learning enjoyment.

As you know, the tutorials at Icondoit! are aimed at PS7 beginners. However, masking in itself is not really a beginner technique, so this tutorial is a little more advanced than the other ones, and does assume some knowledge. I kept it as straight-forward as possible though.

The tutorial covers Quick masking, Layer masking and Masking brushes.

If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, speak up!

Download the zip.

A set of five pretty textures. They are in .jpg format. Let your imagination run wild.

After this, it's all new stuff, and the pace will be slower. Unless I find my other textures, then I'll go ahead and get them up. Thanks for your patience with all the spam so far.

Soon (not TOO soon) I'll be posting a poll (if I can do that in the comm) asking what you want to see next ... what tutorials, what resources ... so start thinking about it.

In the plans now:
A masking tutorial
How to download and install brushes tutorial
Another full icon tutorial
2 new brush sets
1 new template set
Look for other textures

Ok folks, this is the last set of templates for now. There will be a new set later on when I start posting new stuff. Actually, this one is pretty new, but I'll let you have it now instead of waiting!

Next I have one set of textures to post (I can't find the others, when/if I do, I'll post them. They may be forever lost though. ::pouts::) then I will start posting new stuff. As I post new stuff, I will advertise it over at icon_tutorial to maybe bring in some new members as well. Maybe even members that actually comment wouldn't that be awesome?! 8^)

Anyway, I don't know if I will post new stuff today, your flist probably needs a break from this comm for now! 8^) No promises though! You'll at least see the texture post, and maybe one new stuff post, we'll see.

Download the zip file.

These are not brushes. They are in .gif format so should work in any program.

They are all black and white, and can be used that way, or you can do other things like add a gradient overlay, (example 2 above) or go to Image > Adjustments > Variations (in PS7) and mess about there to change the colors (example 2 above.) Your imagination will tell you other things these can be used for.

If you wish, you can make them into brushes by opening the .gif file, then going to Edit > Define Brush. The new brush will show up at the end of your brush palette.

If you have questions, just ask.

Comment (really! ALLLL these posts here, and not one comment in this journal yet, I'm going to pout)

There are 64 templates in here. I have two newer batches I will put up later, these are the old ones. These were made quite some time ago when they were all the rage for icons here at LJ. They are all lumped together, in many shapes for many different purposes. They range from cute and useful to ugly and "what was I thinking?" You get to sort through them to see which you like. 8^)

They are .gif files, so should work in any program.

They are not brushes. Templates are used to make areas of your graphic "cut away" "transparent" or "see through," or to make certain areas flash or blink. This works better with templates than with brushes, as brushes are not always anti-aliased, so therefore they may leave fragments (artifacts) behind in the cut away areas. When selecting an area to delete, make sure "anti-alias" is turned off on your selection tool.

If you use a font in the transparent areas, make sure to use a bitmap font with the anti-alias turned off. You cannot use anti-alias in transparent areas, as it will leave fragments behind that will show up on different color backgrounds. In other words, the fragments may not show up on a white background, but they may look horrible on a black background.

Graphics with transparent areas must be saved as .gif or the areas will not be transparent.

However, if you wish, you can make any of these into a brush easily. Open the template, then go to Edit > Define Brush (in PS7, maybe different in other versions) and the brush will show up at the end of your brushes palette.

If you have further questions, just ask! If it's a question you have, likely others do as well.

This about catches me up on the old brushes, I think. I have two new sets in the works, and a "mixed set" will be coming along eventually as well. I'm taking the rest of the night off, will begin working on uploading templates tomorrow. I have found about 100 templates today. 8^0

After I get all the old stuff put up, there will be less spam from me here. Please be patient over the next couple of days while I get these resources posted.

Two more brush sets are up now over at Icondoit. All brush sets have an abr file made in PS7, and image packs.

This was my first border set, (made WAY back when....) and some of these are still my favorites! There will be more borders later, some in template form rather than brushes.

36 swirlie brushes. Why any one person would need 36 swirlie brushes is something I haven't worked out yet. However, if the need arises, you'll be prepared!

Good morning all!

Well, I posted a tutorial at about 3 or 3:30 in the morning, then went to bed for 4 hours. In that time, the tutorial got 70 hits, and we got a few new members here! I'm pleased enough with that! Only got one comment though. ::pouts:: I love those comments folks, so don't be shy! This is a friendly community, I'm easy to talk to, so let me know what you think. It helps me know what to post or to work on next.

Welcome new members! I'm pleased as punch to have you here!

I got two brush sets posted so far this morning. There are several more that I will be working on putting up over the weekend. So, expect a little spam on your flist, sorry about that.

If anybody wants to make a post here for newbies about how to download and install brushes, including what to do with an image pack, I'll love you forever, and I'll put it in the memories. If not, I'll work on it after I get the rest of the brushes up. No pressure, no worries.

Side note:
Feel free to always make posts here about new things you've learned, or to ask questions, or to answer someone else's questions. Post your own resources if you wish, or your own tutorials. Think of this comm as a big, friendly, helpful place to share all things graphics or photoshop.

Ok, on to the brushes ....

A set of 12 icon size cloud textures from my own photographs.

A set of 8 skull brushes made from images found on the web. Various sizes.

Each zip has an abr file made in PS7, image packs and a txt file telling about the brushes.

For a full preview, and to download the brush zips, visit Icondoit!

Comment please, it fuels the Muse.

Every now and again I will make a "Hints and Tips" post. If I learn something new, I'll post it here so I can remember it later. Maybe you'll find something useful in the collection as well. You'll be able to find these posts by checking memories, or clicking the tag.

I picked up todays gem over at icon_tutorial

Always before, if I had a locked background layer on the bottom that I needed to unlock, I would copy the layer by dragging it to the new layer icon, then throw out the original background layer.

Today I learned that all you have to do is double click on the background layer to convert it to Layer 0, and viola, it's unlocked.

They are pretty smart over there!
