Multi-Level Training Program from The IMPACT Center

June 12, 2019 by

The IMPACT Center has a MOOC!

“idea 2 IMPACT: An Introduction to Translating Assistive Health Technologies and Other Products”

The IMPACT Center’s massive open online course (MOOC), “idea 2 IMPACT: An Introduction to Translating Assistive Health Technologies and Other Products,” is an introductory 6-week online course that explains step by step on how to develop an entrepreneurial idea, by increasing awareness and capacity building for the disability and rehabilitation research community. This course will provide foundational content of the translational process to maximize impact for an intended audience. It is a great way to become familiar with technology translation or even a refresher for those that may already have experience taking their technology to market.

MOOC is open to all on Coursera regardless of if you have NIDILRR funding and can be taken at any time as the course is asynchronous (taken on your own with feedback from course peers). (Link to Coursera)

The IMPACT Center’s 3 PHASE TRAINING PROGRAM

IMPACT BootCamp (Phase 1, NIDILRR Grantees)

The Online Course idea 2 IMPACT (i2I) Boot Camp “idea 2 IMPACT: An Introduction to Translating Assistive Health Technologies and Other Products Bootcamp,”  is open to NIDILRR grantees and those seeking NIDILRR funding. It is sponsored by NIDILRR funds. An application to partake in IMPACT BootCamp is required. (Apply Here)

idea 2 IMPACT (i2I) BootCamp is part of the IMPACT Center’s multilevel training program that is built to increase awareness and the capacity of NIDILRR grantees’ knowledge of technology transfer. The i2I BootCamp (Phase 1 of Training) will include weekly online recitations over 11 weeks, live feedback from colleagues and mentors, and focused discussion. i2I is required prior to taking Phase 2 of Training IMPACT Start Up, the Assistive Technology focused customer discovery program.

We recommend that participation in the i2I BootCamp course take place as a team of 3. While having a team is not required, there are advantages to participating as a team and having common roles (entrepreneurial lead, academic lead or PI, mentor, etc.) defined. (Apply Here)

IMPACT StartUp (Phase 2, NIDILRR Grantees)

The AT focused IMPACT StartUp program (Phase 2 of Training) has been developed to provide guidance in the ATTT process and will serve as a canvas for AT teams that may want to enroll in NSF and related programs. The main goal is comprehensive customer discovery that takes place throughout the 11-week program. Each team will receive up to a $25,000 to put towards comprehensive customer discovery, interview travel, supplies, technology development and product testing.

Each session will consist of 4 teams that have already gone through the IMPACT Center’s BootCamp (Phase I) of the Multilevel Training Program. Each team must consist of 3 members (Principal Investigator, Entrepreneurial Lead, and a Mentor). IMPACT StartUp requires an application and is open to NIDILRR grantees and those seeking NIDILRR funding.

IMPACT Accelerate (Phase 3, NIDILRR Grantees)

The IMPACT Center is partnering with Fourth River Solutions, a non-profit organization associated with the university, to deliver the IMPACT Accelerate (Phase 3 of Training) intervention to qualifying NIDILRR grantees.  Fourth River consultants translate their skills from cutting-edge academic research to real-world business solutions.  Consultants will support a grantee with a customized scope of work that may consist of the following: Value Proposition Assessment, Marketing Analysis, Competitor Analysis, Customer Discovery, Regulatory Assessment, Indication Prioritization, Business Plan, Investor Pitch Presentation, Exit Strategy.
