It occurs to me that there are a great number of people out there, whether on my flist, watching this community, or nowhere near either one of the above, that are aspiring iconists. The problem being that they're not really sure how to go about said iconing.
Can't blame them, really, it's not something that you just get used to overnight. I took a long time to get to the level I'm at now, which I'm very happy with. It took a lot of trial and error and bumbling around for the right tools in photoshop.
So, that kind of spurred me to think, "hey, there are a lot of people that could use a very basics tutorial." Thinking about the basics, though, there's a lot more than I could ever cover in one tut. So, I'm going to be doing a series of these. You can feel free to skip them if you like, or if you have things you'd like to chip in, you're welcome to comment. I'm not sure how many tutorials will be in this series, but there will be several, at the least.
In this tutorial, we're going to cover the basics of the basics:
the tools and layering. This is not the first beginner's tutorial ever made. It will not be the last, by far.
This tutorial was made in photoshop. However, PSP has all the same tools, just in different places.
( very image heavyCollapse )I think that wraps up this tutorial. If you want to link people to this, you're welcome to; I just know there are a lot of people that could use these tutorials.
If you have suggestions of more basic things you'd like to see in a tutorial, please feel free to comment. Currently, the only ones I seriously have planned are on text and gradients. Please also feel free to comment if there's something you don't quite understand or something you'd like to add.
