I might not starve

Because I a.) need to get practice for cooking for myself this coming year and b.) I have no job and ohmygodI'mgoingtokillmyselffromboredom, I've taken it upon myself to cook dinner (or most of dinner) every night. It's working out fairly well after three days. I'm not as hopeless as I thought I was. I won't be making anything truly complicated anytime soon (or probably ever), but I'm feeling better about being able to survive for a year.

Took the cat to the vet today to see what was wrong with his tail. I never want to hear such howling as he did while she was moving his legs around. Ever. There was much hissing and fur flying and general nastiness. The vet found the biggest abcessed cat bite in the world after anesthetizing him, which will have to drain for a while. *sigh* If he's going to get into cat fights (even though he's been neutered...grrr), he really shouldn't be an indoor/outdoor cat, which means that since we have dogs and a dog door, well...free cat to good home?

*sad*

Hee, Fry had to have his spleen replaced on tonight's rerun of Futurama. I heart adult swim.

I'm working on some XF icons. Had to go get screencaps for them. Why is it that the first season X-Files wardrobe people felt the need to dress Gillian Anderson in ugly, ugly suits with enough shoulderpads to turn anyone into a linebacker? I mean, I know it was '93, and many things about the 80s hadn't really left yet (even clothes that little nine-year-old me got that year had shoulderpads. It was ridiculous) but...yeeeck.

Gave the cat a paper ball to play with tonight. He spent half an hour batting it everywhere. I think I got more fun out of watching him, though. Hee.

More cat antics

Cat: 'I *will* have a bird'Collapse )

And as I suspected, I did do something to my wrist when I feel off my chair last week. The cyst is just lurking there, coming up ever so slowly. It doesn't hurt as badly as it did the last time, so I'm hoping to keep it down if I stay off the computer for a while. Yeah, we'll see how long that lasts... ;) Maybe I'll just go on a binge of really long fics, which only require my left index finger to scroll down with the arrow key? *sigh*

(Oh, and RIP my Rebecca/snerk icon and my Aeryn in her Prowler icon. But pretty ones replacing them... :))

GIP!

It's not my best, but I haven't made an icon in a while, and I'm rusty, so I figured what the heck. (Also, I've never had a Sam/Jack icon, even though this month marks a year of watching SG1 obsessively for me.) Got to try out some new brushes and remember how to make type almost-but-not-transparent-with-glow-surrounding-it. Lyric is from "Somewhere Only We Know," by Keane, which is currently getting tons of airplay on one of the Internet radio stations I listen to regularly.

In other news, can anyone explain to me why Cat insists on taking walks with the dogs? Seriously, he tags along, runs ahead, and generally hangs out with us as we walk down the street. I don't get it. I guess he thinks he's a dog. Maybe he'd like a harness and a leash...

Cats? Odd. Very odd.

Cat is strange.

Cat antics, with pictureCollapse )

And the DJ on Virgin Radio just said "Mackie D's." Hee. As someone who's only heard "Mickie D's," I find this oddly amusing.

Awwww.

Under my bed is a small blue crate that holds a fleece blanket. Cat has decided that said crate and blanket combination is his new bed. All you can see of him is his ears poking out over the top of the crate. It's the cutest thing ever.

Also? The fact that some guy named Mario Winans has a single out that features Puff Daddy, or P. Diddy, or whatever he goes by now, and Enya is utterly inconcruous to me. Especially as iTunes lists the song as explicit. Cannot...comprehend...

So I seem to be gettin' into this groove of posting every other day. I can deal with that.

My mommy sent me a picture of Cat. He's all ready for spring.Collapse ) Heh.

Back to work. Finished my research early yesterday. Goal for today is to have an outline of the paper done by the time I leave to go to the movie for Faust class, as well as to write some more on my Civil War spy story. I'm well over the minimum page count, but I want to finish the freakin' thing. With any luck, I can do it in under sixteen pages...

An entry of a fannish persuasion

Lo and behold, Skiffy is showing 9th season XF episodes. "4-D" was on this afternoon. Hooray for Doggett/Reyes shippiness! There's a part of me that likes them better than Mulder and Scully. This is possibly because they didn't get seven years to fool around with the UST and then have it ruined with a weird baby and alien abduction storyline. Muse is staring at me and chanting, "Fic, fic, fic!" but I'm resisting. For now. Instead, I'll continue to download episode clips at this lovely site, which appears to have a D/R slant, since it's got all the relevant clips for "4-D," "Audrey Pauley," "Release," and probably others that I haven't investigated yet.

tarzanic, I did very much enjoy "Beneath the Surface" on Monday night. In fact, I think I may have found my favorite episode of SG-1. (Well, maybe it's at the top of a heap of favorites out of the ones I've seen, anyway. "Desperate Measures" on your tape completely blew me away, as do POV, 1969, Jolinar's Memories/TDYK, The Fifth Race, Nemesis/Small Victories, and a few other episodes.) The ending broke my heart. It got "damn you"s for both RDA and AT, because, dude. Ow. *sniffle* Speaking of your tape, will e-mail you soon about getting it back to you. I did very much enjoy Wormhole X-Treme! *g* Actually, now that I've seen most of S5, I've really, really liked all that I've seen. I've found that a lot of people didn't really like it, but I can't imagine why. It doesn't have the shippy that S4 did, but the stories and characterization are excellent.

Going back to tapes in general, also very much enjoyed D&C thanks to cheapevilgirl, so yay Krissy! :)

The kitten, whom we may be deeming Elmo ('cause it's sort of the only name that you can make from trees, which he likes to climb), slept on my lap for the entire afternoon while I watched tarzanic's tape. I get the feeling that he's staying with us for the long haul. Good, in that he's an adorable kitten and I love him to pieces, but bad in that I'm not looking forward to cat-proofing the house.

That's about it, I guess. I really, really, really, really miss Scapers. :-(
