Who We Are

The Islamic Center of Detroit (ICD) exists to serve the most vulnerable people within Metropolitan Detroit through the Muslim faith, Islamic principles, and a fundamental belief in assisting others. Officially opened to the public in January 2000, the ICD offers programming not only to its Muslim constituency, but also the underserved surrounding the Brooks, Fiskhorn, Warrendale, and Cody Rouge neighborhoods, and surrounding communities.

Mission and Background

The Islamic Center of Detroit (ICD) is a 501C3 tax exempt non profit organization that exists to serve the most vulnerable people within Metropolitan Detroit through the Muslim faith, Islamic principles, and a fundamental belief in assisting others. Officially opened to the public in January 2000, the ICD offers programming not only to its Muslim constituency, but also the underserved surrounding the Brooks, Fiskhorn, Warrendale, and Cody Rouge neighborhoods, and surrounding communities.

Accomplishments

In 2019, ICD expanded both its programming and reach, enhancing services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and families in Metro Detroit. In 2020, we provided critical support through education, career training, wellness programs, and food assistance—serving 5,000 meals daily, feeding 2,500 individuals via our pantry, and offering nearly 2,000 mental health counseling sessions during the pandemic.

A major milestone in 2019 was winning the Art Van Charity Challenge, raising nearly $350,000 and securing a $100,000 grant. In 2020, we participated in the Community Thrives Challenge, raising over $200,000 and earning an additional $15,000 grant. Our commitment to the community continues today.
