Local history is alive at the Hyannis Public Library with information about the many families that built our  community. We have books, magazines, and newspapers as well as vertical file clippings regarding the names and places that have made our village and town their home.

We also feature talks by local historians throughout the year so make sure you follow us on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest schedule!

The Dorothy P. Donalson Library Collection of African-American and Women's Studies

Dorothy P. Donalson photoThis special collection was dedicated in 2003 after a year of careful preparation and collection development. The funds for this impressive collection were donated by the family and friends of Dorothy Donalson to honor her forty years of service to the Town of Barnstable.

Mrs. Donalson’s record of volunteering and giving to the community was acknowledged with a presentation of public commendations and proclamations,  and the Trustees and staff are pleased that the Hyannis Public Library is the permanent home of these unique cultural, historical, and literary research materials.
