Thanks for being part of the HNS Listserv community. Participation on the Listserv community is a privilege of membership that may be restricted or removed at the discretion of the HNS Board of Directors. To ensure the best possible experience for all Listserv members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.
By joining and using our e-mail list, you agree that you have read and will follow the rules and guidelines set for this peer discussion group. You also agree to reserve list discussions for topics best suited to the medium. This is a great medium with which to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in an ongoing conversation. Technical questions or questions about your membership should be directed to membership@hnps.org.
Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines.
In order to preserve a climate that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, HNS reserves the right to suspend or terminate Listserv privileges for members who violate these rules. Other list members may email the list administrators or Board members with a description of the alleged violation and/or concerns.
The HNS Board of Directors may restrict or remove Listserv privileges at any time they consider actions by Listserv members to be inappropriate to the optimal functioning and community spirit of the list. Any member who feels they have been inappropriately restricted or removed may petition the Board of Directors for reconsideration of any sanctions imposed for alleged misconduct related to the Listserv.
The Rules
- Don't challenge or attack others. The discussions on the list are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention.
- Please avoid messages that are not directly related to neuropsychology. Don't post commercial messages or advertisements, as well as unrelated political messages, meetings, or products.
- Members are permitted to post their research projects on the list. All advertised research projects must be IRB-approved; all postings must specifically state that the study was IRB-approved and list the name of the institution that granted the approval. HNS prohibits posting of research on someone else’s behalf.
- Members are permitted to post fellowship and professional employment opportunities in the list.
- Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the list is available for all HNS members to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
- All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited.
- Do not post any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. By posting material, the posting party warrants and represents that he or she owns the copyright with respect to such material or has received permission from the copyright owner.
- Do not post any protected health information, and be cautious with case descriptions, as too much detail and requests for interpretation may prove risky unless the intent is to provide a broad teaching example.
Listserv Etiquette
- Include a signature or contact information on all messages. This way, other members can reply to you individually rather than to the list, if they prefer.
- Send messages such as "thanks," “congratulations,” or "me, too" to individuals – not to the entire list. Do this by using your e-mail application's forwarding option and typing in or cutting and pasting in the e-mail address of the individual to whom you want to respond.
- State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
- Include only the relevant portions of the original message in your reply. Delete any header information, and put your response before the original posting.
- Only send a message to the entire list when it contains information from which everyone can benefit.
- Do not forward messages outside of the list without explicit, written consent of all authors involved in the thread/e-mail you are forwarding.
- Never assume messages remain confidential and private.
- Do not use the list as a substitute for direct clinical supervision, consultation, or peer review.
- Do not send administrative messages such as, “Remove me from the list,” through the Listserv. Instead, use the Web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you need to change the email address at which you are subscribed, use the contact form on the HNS website. Include your current email address and the email address to which you want to change your subscription.
- Warn other list subscribers of lengthy messages either in the subject line or at the beginning of the message body with a line that says, "Long Message."
