It is an overbright, overcrowded city, with almost too many tiny details to count, so many technological and artistic wonders to take in it's difficult to imagine how people walk about their daily life. But there in the distance, you might recognize an ancient structure or two, in crumbling stone. The rusted and decrepid Eiffel tower is in the center of all of those noisy colors [only partially visible in the screencap, lower left], eclipsed by electric billboards, modern, alien architecture and zeppelins with unnervingly human faces.

~*~

A toybox city, all done up in lights. Old fashioned buildings, high columns - it could be anywhere in Europe, really.

But high in the sky, instead of the moon, the blue Earth hangs.

~*~

A graveyard with high trees and old mausoleums, and an ancient, stone-walled church in the center. It is a peaceful, beautiful place, feeling of silence and solemnity.

~*~

It's a dark little place, brick walled - an attic or a loft somewhere, a little bit untidy. There are bookshelves filled with adventure tales and dog-eared comic books, a wooden desk with a fountain pen and a fresh sheet of paper and next to it, a not-inconsiderably personal computer, all brass and pipes and complicated-looking glass. All of the light in the room originates from stained glass windows. Most prominent is one above a table filled with empty wine glasses, a lamb bisected by a tree [see the upper right].

~*~

A picture perfect, sandy seaside some may recognize as Southern France. Puffy white clouds are suspended over a shimmering sea, and gulls are frozen in motion in the distance. It is big, and open, the antithesis to the clustered collage of color, pattern and technology of the first location - a simple perfection.

Siren's Port has start to bring forth Franz's dormant ability: he can sense when he's being lied to. He'll also start to glow, but, no need for permission with that.

HOW IT WORKS:
Franz is either listening to a conversation within earshot or having one personally. Someone in that conversation tells a lie. He gets any number of physical sensations, from a chill on his back to a knot in his stomach, to a headache, and an absolutely unshakable conviction he is being lied to.

· It does not work over NV, telephone, or other communications, only in person.
· The bigger the lie, the stronger the sensation. In general, a lie told to cover embarrassment is not going to set off as strong a reaction as a lie to cover up a horrible plot of murder, etc. However, if a person feels their lie is huge - if their plastic surgery is such a big deal to them it's killing them inside because they think everyone would hate them if they knew, Franz will feel it is a large lie in context to that. In other words, he senses how much a person wants to cover something up, or how much thought they put into that lie, rather than the contents of the lie itself. The bad side of this is in dealing with say, a psycho villain, who might cover their deeds with lies but not particularly feel they're big or important lies, he would not necessarily feel they are big ole liarfaces who need to be thrown in jail just by talking to them.
· In other words, Franz senses the lie and how big a lie the person speaking it feels it is. He is not able to tell the direct nature of the lie, BUT, he is a shrewd, intelligent and rather suspicious person. Through his own reasoning, he may put together a probably theory and suss out a person's lie... but it is not a guaranteed success.
· Partial truths or lies by omission will not set off Franz's ability. However, be aware that if one isn't forthcoming for some reason, Franz may have cause to be suspicious and feel something is wrong or off through instinct.
· Un-truths that the speaker believes are facts will also not register as lies. If a supermodel said, "I am the ugliest person on Earth," and genuinely believed it, Franz would not sense it as a lie.
· As Franz begins to accept and attempt to control his ability, his sensitivity to lies will grow to the point that spending more than an hour or two around a liar will become physically debilitating: he'll get migraines, feel weak, possibly even nauseous depending on the intensity of the lies. He will probably eventually seek help to block out these symptoms from other people with psychic or empathic abilities.

YOUR CHARACTER MAY EXEMPT:
· If they are inorganic (IE, a robot), or an extremely powerful non-human (god-like figures, the Endless, particularly powerful supernatural or alien beings)
· If they are strongly, deliberately shielded against psychics, such as the X-Men
· If you feel your character should be exempt for other reasons, bearing in mind he already cannot sense the actual nature of lies or lies by omission and the ability only works in person, please discuss.

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU, IF YOU PLEASE:

Character: NAME | JOURNAL | CANON
Can Franz sense if they're lying? Tell me if Franz can sense if they're lying - and if he can, please be kind enough to take note of times your character may be lying IC. Most people do this already. ;)
If no, why not? Explain why Franz couldn't tell if your character was lying. Please be detailed! I love details!
Questions, comments, confessions of undying love? I was hiding under the porch because I love you.
