How to Care for your Heretic Knife
Your Heretic knife has a lifetime warranty. Daily use means it’s up to you to keep it operating smoothly. This guide shows how to fix an out-of-battery situation, clean away debris and lubricate the mechanism for long-term reliability.
Tools & Supplies
Microfiber Cloth
Compressed Air
Heretic OTF Lube
Did You Know?
Heretic's proprietary OTF lube is designed specifically for our knife mechanisms. It's engineered to avoid leaving a sticky residue like some general-purpose oils and protects with integrated Teflon for smooth operation.
Fixing an Out-of-Battery Situation
- Carefully grip the back of the blade and pull until you hear a click—this means the blade is fully deployed.
- Dryness is the most common cause. Apply a few drops of Heretic OTF Lube at the base of the blade where it meets the chassis (choil area), the back of the blade, and just behind the fire/switch button.
- Hold the knife upright so the oil wicks down into the mechanism, then actuate (open/close) the knife several times to distribute the lube.
- Wipe off any excess oil with a microfiber cloth.
Routine Cleaning
- Retract the blade fully.
- Point the knife tip downward and spray R.E.M. oil into the chassis, coating internal areas thoroughly.
- At a slight angle, use compressed air to blow through the mechanism and push out debris (dirt, sand, lint, grit). Allow excess to drain.
- Deploy the knife, then add a few drops of Heretic OTF Lube at the choil/base of the blade, the back of the blade, and just behind the fire/switch button.
- Actuate the knife several times to work in the lubricant.
- Wipe away any excess oil with a microfiber cloth.
Pro Tip
Regular cleaning and proper lubrication keep the action smooth and reliable for the lifetime of the knife.
