Le Petit Livre Noir Redux

The World Cup has ended, and I finally have a life again. What do I do?!
That aside, I watched both Ip Man and Ip Man 2 on DVD sometime during the quarters and semis of the WC. They were hilariously bad, complete with the necessary tropes: everything is black and white, foreigners = EVIL PEOPLE, kung fu masters = the moral axis you can depend on. But what struck me the most was how Donnie Yen cleans up in a most nerdy, Chinese school sort of way. I can almost imagine him in a Chinese High uniform. Though the image of Mr Yen in the hotpants of aforementioned school is rather horrifying. 0_o
Mind you, I still liked the Ip Man movies ^^ I need my brainlessness and they fulfilled the requirements in a most satisfactory fashion.

So I watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief the other day. It was fun, fun, fun. Not the best movie ever but it was entertaining. I've never read the books, which is a shame as apparently they're even sillier than the movie (oh hai, I had no idea Poseidon wore Hawaiian shirts) so that means I need to hunt them down. No, I do read srs books, so allow me my fun.
Plus, the almost random turn of major and not-so-major actors dressing up as Olympian gods was nothing short of amusing. Sean Bean and Kevin McKidd totally rocked their togas, Uma Thurman as Medusa was WTF and Rosario Dawson as a disaffected Persephone provided much lulz. Melina Kanakaredes, I love you bebe in CSI:NY but that British accent was c'est terrible. Never do it again, please. And hearing Poker Face will never fail to make me giggle after that horrific but compelling Lotus Casino dance sequence.
I left the theatre thinking that this is a movie whose protagonist:
- has major father issues
- lives with his mother and jackass of a stepfather
- has pretty blue eyes (I rather like the explanation given for his eyes, in all honesty. Yes, I am shallow that way)
- has a mentor/father figure who is wheelchair-bound (sort of) and encourages rule-breaking (somewhat)
and was therefore bemused, because WHY DOES THIS SOUND SO FAMILIAR?

OK friends-cut done. It's the same drill as always. I've removed you because:
- you and I don't interact any more. I confess, this is likely a function of my being a terrible bore lately.
- we no longer share the same interests. That or my level of indulgence for said interests has decreased exponentially to the point where there's no point to the entire exercise. I still have my hobbies etc but I don't have any more time to wax lyrical over Man Utd/anime/ (insert appropriate fandom) anymore.
It's really not that many people; and if by any chance you really feel that I was wrong about it, drop me a note.

If things work out... TOS Season Two watch starts tonight.
(Hush, I know I sound terribly one-track at the moment, but look me in the eyes and tell me honestly that there's something worth squeeing over on TV at the moment.)

So. Am taking a break in between busting my calorie limit for the day. Then I come across this:
Title: (deleted)
Rating: PG
Pairing: Eventual Kirk/Bones.
Notes: This is a fantasy AU. Also known as, that time I wondered what would happen if Star Trek and the Valdemar book series had a magical lovechild. Be warned.
I have been forewarned indeed. *runs away screaming* Where's that Kassim Selamat sporking his eyes out icon when you need one?
Oh, did I mention my sister's fiance called her up to gush over Take That and he's given her specific instructions that when they are married, they'd better have a copy of the Beautiful World Tour in their DVD collection.
Why can't I find men like that? Instead of those who think bringing women to Starbucks is an acceptable option.

*pokes around* OK so that layout got old really easily. And I can't believe I'm pondering getting a paid account here. Because I want more icons. I know. SHUT UP.
So, am watching Lake House now (hush, yes, I'm watching Lake House and there seriously is only one reason to watch Lake House) and I keep thinking of hmm,
scaramouche's timeline post. I'm quite sure it was
scaramouche and how awesomely geeky it was. Chicago. Keanu Reeves. Umm, yes.
Much to my horror, I also realised that various branches of my extended family attended Mawi's wedding. Please allow me to mourn my loss of credibility. Apparently, his sister-in-law is my mother's second cousin. Or something like that. Whatever. I'm still appalled. *hides in corner to cry*
And I sort of wish I can actually fit into these clothes @ Yumumu. It's also my sister's friend's label, so go get some ^^
Allow me to trundle off to waste my time reading more Star Trek fic.

Uhhh. Am sort of finally back from the dead. I have been:
- spending way too much time reading ST fic. I blame
horusporus for this. But last I talked to her about this issue, she was unsuitably unsympathetic. =_=
- rewatching Battlestar Galactica. Currently at Season 3 (which I managed to miss in its entirety). Thank goodnesss there's only four seasons. Because uh, then I can start on ST: TOS. OK I AM OBSESSED, SHUT UP.
- working for the third time on the Dragon Scales Shawl. It'll probably be for me, myself and I. Err.
And I realise that picking up knitting in the States has totally f--d my mind over. I keep thinking in US needle sizes and inches when I look for my circular needles now. *facepalm*
