This journal is public with an occasional f-locked personal-life post. The only rule is that I like to keep things positive - so any negativity or mean-spiritedness will be frowned upon. I like to like things.
She returns! I cracked open a can from the media and rolled the "what should I do tonight" dice, and for once it came up Supernatural - so here we go...
Just like last time, this will be a quick and dirty rewatch, where I'm not going to be pausing much to actually write out my thoughts in a coherent matter - so more in the style of how I rewatched S1 and S2 WAY back in the day.
Also, if anyone knows the URL for when you want to post but have the classic posting format, please let me know what it is? They don't give me an option to switch back to the classic view anymore.
15x02 Raising Hell
Day-time ghosts = the worst - why did they make these decisions?
Lady sneaking into contaminated area. Lady, read the room, something is wrong with Rob. For spelling bee joke? Kinda stupid - just had a hunch and looked up the writers and YUP, that tracks. UGH, so this rewatch will be VERY quick.
Sam high school - blue, white and red plaid, FBI jacket.
I do like Sam in positions of authority.
Dean out with Belphie - plain green/blue shirt.
Jack the Ripper ghost. Would Jack the Ripper even know what a Spelling Bee is? Aren't they a fairly modern invention?
I guess I'd die if there was actually a conspiracy, but I'd just be like "people told me it was safe to stay in this high school - I think I'll just stay in this high school." Even if there were dudes patrolling with guns and it was obviously a cover story for something else. I likely DO NOT WANT TO KNOW.

I'm still alive!
Let's do this, but old fashioned style where I mostly give overview thoughts. It's been three years since I watched these episodes, so this will be interesting... my memory is fuzzier than when I usually would have done my rewatches just a few months after the end of the season.
It's the one time I need the recap.
Starting in Jack's dead eyes while The Road So Far music is still playing, and everyone is in the middle of a zombie battle, is really effective. Definitely a taste of what I loved about Supernatural.
It's the small things that show Jack was beloved - like Castiel picking up his dead body to escape the zombie horde, even though he is very much dead.
Clothes - The same as previous episode by necessity.
Alex is a good actor, and I like the fact that he got to play someone other character besides Jack for a little bit.
Dean not caring about the demon "defiling Jack's corpse" is actually in character - given that Castiel is also riding around in someone's corpse and has been for years, and they both know it. Cas having a problem with a demon in Jack's corpse is actually a LITTLE BIT hypocritical.
Whenever you don't know how to write yourself out of a corner, try MAGIC SPELL!
The apocalypse being all the Winchester's day-to-day work being undone is pretty cool though... like, incremental improvements really do save the world!
( Read more...Collapse )I gotta say that it's pretty nostalgic to see my timeline freak out over the Supernatural universe again.
I don't have a means to watch the show, but I have to admit that I find myself more curious than I thought I would be. And from the promo I've seen leading up to it (and the people behind it), I actually think there are a characters that I'd possibly fall in love with and that the show might be able to draw me in the way Supernatural did with good characters and relationships.
As you all know, I still haven't done my S15 rewatch or clothing catalogue. It was easy to put them off when we were in the grips of a pandemic, and while I went through a sort of rollercoaster of employment shenanigans over the past 2.5 years or so. While all that is happening though, you also fall out of routines and it's hard to get back into them. In truth, I don't actually watch much TV anymore. My new way of watching things is either a)forcibly being shown something while I'm at my friends house, unable to say no, because my friends don't know how to NOT watch TV and it's just easier to go along with it. b)Watching one or two episodes of some reality show or easy low-stakes rom-com show, while I knit - something that I can look away from and don't have to follow to closely.
Anyway, if anyone is still reading this here LJ in the year 2022, please let me know what you thought of the Winchesters in the comments! Remember that positives and negatives should balance! :)

I haven't done charts or graphs yet, but I'll try to do those next. After I get that done, I'll start on a S15 rewatch. It'll be SLOW, I mean, obviously it'll be slow - you can tell by the way I promised to have S14 done by February 2020 and now it's May 2022.
In fairness, there was the whole pandemic thing. I've also switched jobs 3 times and started working full time.

I finally bring you the final episode of my S14 rewatch - a whole year after I initially intended to be finished.
The new goal will be to get the clothing catalog updated by the end of February... we'll see how well I do at that. Once the clothing catalog is updated, I'll track down a S15 DVD (if they're out yet) and do a S15 rewatch.

And we're done! Thank you to those who have stuck this out with me. I'm sorry that 2020 really made things so difficult for me to get things done. Overall though, I'm doing okay - but thank you all for understanding that I couldn't keep up my same efficiency as before during a global crisis.

Now that the holidays are over, it's back to work! Which means I will FINALLY watch the final 2 episodes of S14 and update the clothing catalogue in the next few weeks - and 2020 is firmly behind us.
Unfortunately, much like the rest of 2021, we're starting off on a bit of a rough note - because this episode was written by BuckLeming, who couldn't write their way out of a paper bag, let alone a box.

Trying to do every two weeks at the very least, because every week wasn't working. I can't believe it's been over a year since I started this rewatch and I'm still not done. I'd say "I'm the worst" but I think the actual correct answer is "2020 is the worst"
The good news is that I still have a job and it's paying me fairly well - the bad news is that it takes up a LOT of my time. I've been working part time for the past two years, so switching to full time has been an adjustment.

I was all set to do rewatches this weekend, but I was busy with work and experiencing my (extremely limited) social life yesterday, and then today I got smacked in the face with a case of "absolutely exhausted and can barely keep eyes open". I save the rewatch for after sunset, thinking that it made sense to do my TV watching at night... but I didn't realize how SUPER tired I was going to get, even though I slept in this morning.
Anyway, this is all to say that I'm going to aim for Thursday now.
I know I keep making excuses as to why S14 rewatches are literally taking me 1+ year(s), but I'm also just trying to be transparent. The last couple of years, I've been working part-time, but these days I'm working until 7pm each night and also for a little bit on Saturdays - and while it's infinitely better for my bank-account, finding time for my hobbies has been a challenge.
I'm hoping to do better if I can be disciplined enough to do rewatches on Thursdays, since I was able to set aside Thursdays when the show was airing to walk to my friends' place and devote 3+ hours to dinner, Supernatural and a Quick Reaction.
