Our History

We have been developing robots and working at the front edge of AI since 2017. Initially focussed on industrial robots, we pivoted to the food sector in 2020 amidst the covid pandemic.

Requiring a shift in focus we spent time evaluating the global manufacturing sector, ultimately identifying a gap in the market for food production. We were struck by the level of automation in the UK which sits 24th in the world for the number of installed robots per worker.

We wanted to understand this in more depth and so we set off on a national tour of the UKs food facilities, covering 30,000 miles in Ben’s trusty Ford Kuga we couldn’t believe the volume of repeatable tasks that were still manually undertaken during a time when labour was becoming increasingly scarce.

About Us
The Leap AI team

Time and time again, we heard the same reasons for this:

“Robots are too expensive; we can’t justify the payback periods”

“Robots are not flexible enough to cope with our evolving range of SKUs and packaging types – I don’t want to invest in capex that becomes redundant when I change my product range”

“We installed a robot maintaining it is difficult as the vision system and robot are supported by two different companies”

We immediately saw an opportunity to leverage our robotic technology, vision capability and AI expertise to deliver systems at a price point and level of simplicity beyond anything else available.

We envisioned a world where manual tasks are a choice and set out on our mission to deliver accessible, affordable automation that transforms the economics of fresh produce.
