[mood: Contemplative] [music: Imagine Dragons - Tip Toe]
When I realized it's only a few months shy of a year since I've last posted, I a) hung my head in shame and b) figured I'd better get in gear and actually post. I've been consumed by entire series, interests and fandoms in that length of time--of which there's not even a whisper here. Yikes, I'll be correcting that ASAP.
These days, I primarily use LJ to keep in touch with the wonderful friends I met through it, not so much for fanwork and communities. Thinking about that made me nostalgic for the days when LJ was an epicenter for communities and fandom. When lively discussions in the comments were a regular thing. It was a go-to. It still is for certain things, but I felt a little sad thinking of the rise and fall of so many communities from my halcyon days of comm. participation--writing essays about SasuNaru, making IchiUri birthday posts and manips, the long, interesting and funny yarns being spun in comment threads. Capslock Bleach hotdogs. Wow, do you remember all that? ( Pardon me, I'm getting nostalgic.Collapse )

| Feels Good to be Home |
[13 Aug 2013|02:20pm] |
[mood: Ready to relax] [music: The Orion Experience - Queen of White Lies]
Phew, just got home from an enjoyable Baltimore trip and will do a little update with photos of our shenanigans shortly. Hit the aquarium, inner harbor, some nice restaurants and caught up with some family. It was an even longer drive than expected thanks to traffic accidents/construction, but I felt accomplished once it was over haha. *strikes a pose* Navigated tolls correctly.
A happy surprise was that the trip my sister planned accidentally coincided with Otakon weekend. I thought for sure it would have been at least the weekend before--I have no idea how we managed to get a hotel in town for the weekend. The other people on the trip couldn't seem to wrap their heads around it, but for me, it felt very weird to be down there and not be there for that. I kept longing to join the cosplayers on their trek to the convention center to see what was cooking in artist's alley, mingle amongst the epic outfits, check out this year's panels. It made me very nostalgic for when I attended a couple of years ago. Seeing all of the costumes was one of my absolute favorite parts when attending, so I did get a tiny taste of that with the folks wandering through inner harbor.
We also had a couple folks staying down in our hotel--I couldn't believe there was already a Shingeki no Kyojin cosplay (so well done, too)...made me wonder if anyone was gallivanting around in Free! Iwatobi Swimming Club swimsuits this year. I've already seen some Japanese cosplay for the characters that were beautifully done...speaking of which, I need episode six now. I'd been looking forward to this anime every since I saw KyoAni's teaser trailer for the upcoming series. It feels like ages ago. <-- hyperbolic, it was months ago. Every week the episode just whizzes by leaving me wanting more. This last episode I was a rollercoaster of reactions, as the poor recipient of my abrupt barrage of Free! text messages could attest to (actually, she seemed very amused so there's that)...mostly I oscillated between "Mwahahaha, they made Rei-chan seasick!~ As soon as they were getting on the boat, I let myself hope, but he seemed fine, and then they arrived on shore and things got magical" to "What if Yonekuni from Sex Pistols was on the Samezuka team" to "Why is Makoto such a beautiful human being?" to "WHO THE #$%@ GAVE YOU THE RIGHT, FREE!?"
Naturally, you don't just do that to Kristy's megane and cliffhanger that shit. Rei: Naturally. Being vague to avoid spoilers (and making an obscure Rei nod with the butterfly icon), though I have a feeling I'll have to unleash my gushing in an actual post about it and slap screenshots everywhere soon. Ciao!

| April Snow Showers Bring Spring Updates |
[02 Apr 2013|04:33pm] |
|
[mood: Wildly ready for spring, bring on the blossoms!] [music: Of Verona - Dark in my Imagination]
Oh no, I've been gone so long they've changed the way you journal again. It's like FB timeline all over again. #NeoLuddite
P.S. Does anyone else twinge a little just writing "neo"? Nazis ruined that word on top of everything else. Maybe Neapolitan ice cream can reclaim neo's association to "a trifecta of deliciousness."
P.S.S. Anyone else ready to stab me with a spork for using a hashtag symbol, especially on a non-Twitter platform? I have to say I laughed when some TV show I was flipping past had one young man answer a door, and as he shifted into a "drop dead" face upon seeing the other young man standing there (I assume it was a woman's current boyfriend answering the door on an ex given the dialogue that followed), a giant "#awkward" popped up on the screen. Ha. The hashtag made it doubly awkward, well done.
Seriously though, I'm not digging this colossal white space editor or the fact that I haven't updated since December. Then again, winter means hibernation by television around here. The temperatures are just starting to thaw--though we had snow today. I keep having visions of Ned Stark ominously chanting "Winter is coming," and Rainbow Brite galloping Starlite down a rainbow yelling, "Not so fast, Stormy!" For all of those of you whose childhood did not include this gem, Rainbow Brite kicks off spring by besting Stormy through a set of raging storm clouds to end winter / begin spring. With rainbow sparkles. '80s logic.
I need to do some fandom updates for new and old fandoms alike, so let me just close with a little heat on this cold day--Happy ManLove Monday!
Me: Feels good to at least get a MLM up.
Everyone:
As the temperature warms, so shall my post-typing fingers. See you soon, lovelies!

| Happy First Day of Winter / End of the Mayan Calendar Madness Day! |
[21 Dec 2012|11:50am] |
[ mood: Ready for the weekend] [music: Matt Alber - End of the World]
Happy First Day of Winter / End of the Mayan Calendar Madness Day!
Things were a little maddening around here well before December 21, but for everyone in the time crush leading up to the holidays and/or the end of keeping time Mayan-style, try to take a deep breath and hang in there! In addition to the usual holiday stresses steeped upon us, technology has risen up against me. I've been doing battle with my PC as my mouse abruptly (and as far as I can tell arbitrarily) stopped working from one day to the next and no amount of troubleshooting has fixed it thus far; non-tabbed yes or no selection prompts are now the bane of my existence. Gonna have to call in the big guns and pay someone to take a look at it. Then, we randomly lost our internet for a couple of days, which is an extra pain in the butt when you're trying to orchestrate a return replacement with a foreign country in a very different time zone for a product that arrived mangled--not even going to get into the amount of rage in my heart over the damage to my Quincy's face--just gonna take deep breaths and focus on getting it replaced.
Hoping that as the holidays settle in, I'll be back to posting regularly as well as getting ManLove Mondays running again...and in that vein, if you run into a raging bigot today trying to claim that the Mayans' prediction of the end of the world should be blamed on "godless homosexuality," you can kindly link them to the published research of James Neill or David Greenberg to educate them that not only did Mayans look favorably on homosexuality, but it was also an integral cultural element (including marriage), the lovemaking aspect of which they believed was taught to them by one of their gods.
Catch you on the flip side! :)

| Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving! |
[04 Dec 2012|07:34pm] |
[mood: Reflective ] [music: Vast - Don't Take Your Love Away]
Howdy, Everyone! Sorry about the lack of MLM posts lately; it's been a bit wild around here.
How was everyone's Thanksgiving? Did you score a bingo? I feel like I need a vacation from that vacation; you ever have that feeling?
Mine ran a little something like this: ( LJ-cut for a case of the ramblesCollapse ) At any rate, I haven't forgotten you, lovelies, or the MLMs (The Avengers request is coming along, I promise!); I have a fun catch up post of what I've been up to as well that I'll get to shortly. Hope your holidays were wonderful and spent laughing and relaxing (relax on a holiday?! I know, paradox of paradoxes) with those you love!

| ManLove Monday: Warm up! |
[22 Oct 2012|08:17pm] |
[mood: Warning: A whole lotta handsome coming your way, but I know you can handle it.] [music: The Duhks - Annabel] Happy ManLove Monday, Everyone!
The water, the sweat, the lips, the lashes, the Adam's apples.
This chilly evening, take heart by the hearth as ye crowd 'round my journal and warm thyself by this picture so hot-hot-hot. Consequently, you may need to follow their example and jump into the shower afterward to cool back down. Sorry, darling, I don't know why I go to extremes. Necessary Billy Joel reference.
In other news, I'm posting my MLM, and it's actually Monday; V for Victory! ♥

| ManLove Monday: Football Tribute |
[18 Oct 2012|09:58am] |
[mood: Ignite] [music: Two Steps from Hell - Heart of Courage ]
Howdy folks! Apologies for the delay in getting this week's ManLove Monday up--I was celebrating my birthday with phone calls from scattered relatives, a trip to the theater and nostalgia lane while soaking up a little time off! Since I'm behind, I'll make this entry short and sweet. A warm hug and a touching tribute for a struggling friend... In the photo above, St. Clairsville player Michael Ferns (right) embraces teammate Logan Thompson after an emotional touchdown honoring Logan's recently passed father. Michael stepped out of bounds instead of running the ball into the end zone and switched from his usual running back role to fullback in the winning play to ensure Logan had the opportunity to score. Incredibly touched by the gesture, he later tweeted, "Looking straight up into the sky after scoring my first varsity touchdown…i know the old man was watching! love and miss you so much daddy."
Two days prior to the game, freshman Logan Thompson lost his father unexpectedly to a massive stroke. Still reeling with the loss, Logan elected to play the game, and his coach and teammates set out to plan a tribute for Logan and his family. When Michael got his break away chance to score, he ran the ball down to the one yard line and then simply walked out of bounds. Stunned, some of the officiating referees mistakenly called it a touchdown, only to have a Twilight Zone-esque twist as St. Clairsville players argued that it was not. Ultimately, Michael was ruled out of bounds at the one yard line, and the team was able to facilitate their tribute-ensuring Logan carried the ball across the line for his first ever touchdown, honoring his father and creating a positive moment in a very difficult situation.

| ManLove Monday: Full Frontal Freedom |
[09 Oct 2012|06:58pm] |
[mood: Why yes, that is the length of my penis, Fernando. You would know. Haha, just kidding, they're really laughing about all the sex they'll be having tonight] [music: Wrong Direction - Disclosure]
ManLove Monday: Full Frontal Freedom Edition! I've been meaning to share this poolside parody for a few weeks and with presidential debate season kicking into high gear, it seemed like an appropriate time to share Wrong Direction's "Disclosure," a Full Frontal Freedom-produced parody of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" discussing transparency (and lack thereof) mainly in regard to Romney's views on wealth.
Starring Colby Melvin, Quinn C. Jaxon, David Brackett, Brandon R. Brown, and Johnathan Myers, the video invites you to demand disclosure while basking in the transparency of their skin.

| ManLove Monday: Happy Autumn! |
[25 Sep 2012|09:14am] |
[mood: Celebrating Fall (even though I'm not ready for the cold weather)] [music: Morcheeba feat. Judy Tzuke - Blue Chair]
ManLove Monday wishes you a Happy Autumn! Touya and Yukito, one of my oldest OTPs, send seasonal greetings from a cozy park bench. I had grand plans for a fall spectacular last night, but the internet utterly thwarted me by having severe issues with image searching and after midnight, this frustrated man love chancellor gave in and went to bed deciding I'd post in the morning with a simple, oldie-but-goodie.
So much to love about this photo: the rich, warm colors to invoke fall, echoed in the honey-brown of Yukito's soft gaze as he pauses reading some intellectual text to glance at Touya who has long since forsaken the written word for dreams. Apparently, this particular CLAMP image stuck with me so much that it knocked on memory's door with a big old grin right away (despite me not having seen it in years), but I kept thinking, "Yes, but let's add some apple picking--what about pumpkin patches? That's too Halloween...maybe leaf piles!" For the record, I did find gay apple picking, it just didn't feature any couplings. Lesson learned, listen to the lovely memory knocking from the get-go instead of maddeningly searching for a gay leaf piles with a fickle internet that grows increasingly off topic in image results until somehow you've landed in a "Footballers who look like rough lesbians" thread.
Are you ready for the fall season? What fall activities are you looking forward to--new season premieres, hayrides, apple picking, holidays, or watching the leaves change?

| ManLove Monday: Golf Edition |
[18 Sep 2012|01:12pm] |
[mood: The best kind of swing] [music: The Lonely Island - Sports]
My apologies for the delay in getting the manlove on! Yesterday, I did event coverage on a golf course the entire day for a charity tournament, and I was so wiped by the time I got home, I decided it would be better to wait and unleash ManLove Monday today. So, for ManLove Monday: Tuesday edition (taste the delicious oxymoron and revel in the complete manipulation of time as we know it!) with a golf twist.
Happy ManLove Monday: Golf Edition! Can you believe I found a photo of newlywed men kissing in a golf cart? Neither can I. The cuteness of the kiss almost makes me forget that the plastic piece to the right looks like a trophy dildo. Almost. I'm not sure why they're wedged in a catacomb tunnel (come with me on this dank journey through the tunnel of love?), or what those plastic set pieces are actually supposed to be...( but it's not quite as confusing as this.Collapse )

| ManLove Monday: Picture Perfect |
[10 Sep 2012|11:28pm] |
[mood: Picture Perfect] [music: Axel Fernando - Amo]
So, you know that post I did the other day about Sergio's special dedication and how he delivered Sernando in spades as though to reward my patience? He just proved himself my king again by electing to follow up his "Heaven" tweet with this:
Please excuse me while I fade softly into the night. #theirhands

| Sernando: Heaven Is In Your Arms |
[08 Sep 2012|03:47pm] |
[mood: My heart beats for you] [music: Bryan Adams - Heaven]
What tiiiiiiiiime is it? INTERNATIONAL BREAK TIME! With the Spanish National Team (SNT) reunited for a series of World Cup qualifying matches, it means Sergio Ramos and Fernando Torres are reunited, known collectively as Sernando in some literary circles (ask Xabi and Esteban to elaborate). As you may have gathered by now, they are my OTP to the max (look upon the mighty mood icon and revel in its splendor). They've been deserving of a "this is why they kidnapped and held my heart hostage" post (several in fact), but my life keeps interrupting my attempts to actually do the long post, and I want to do justice to all their complexity when I share. BUT. But but BUT, in the spirit of trying to update more regularly, I'm going to share my probably-hilarious-to-bystanders reaction to a little something Sernando that took place the other night (with a little manifesto on the side).
( Heaven is in your armsCollapse )

| ManLove Monday Wishes You A Happy Labor Day! |
[03 Sep 2012|11:25pm] |
[mood: Celebrating the hard work of all occupations, even the law offices held by the undead.] [music: Huecco - Dame Vida ]
ManLove Monday: Labor Day A life saving act of human compassion, this Pulitzer-winning photo by Rocco Morabito was dubbed the "Kiss of Life" and features apprentice lineman J.D. Thompson breathing into the mouth of R.G. Champion, who is shown hanging unconscious after being shocked by a wire while working on the utility pole. Amazingly, Champion survived the electrocution, in part thanks to Thompson's quick thinking mouth-to-mouth. I thought this labor of love would be the perfect way to celebrate to ManLove Monday: Labor Day edition!
Shirtless-construction-worker laughs off OSHA regulations and wishes you a fun and relaxing Labor Day holiday.
LOL, bite me OSHA! Hope you and yours had a wonderful Labor Day weekend, and I (and disestablishmentarianism construction worker Pete) will see you soon for the next edition of moobs gone wild.

[27 Aug 2012|11:06pm] |
[mood: Snuggle up to someone you love] [music: Phil Phillips - Home]
Things have been busy-bee-busy at work, so tonight, I just want to kick back and relax...and today's ManLove Monday is set to do the same.
Curl up and get comfy...
Lay back and drift off to a major case of the warm and fuzzies... ( It's cuddle and snuggle time!Collapse )

| ManLove Monday: When Posts Collide! |
[20 Aug 2012|08:29pm] |
[mood: Don't get your panties in a bunch, it's time for more ManLove Monday! ] [music: Young The Giant - Cough Syrup]
That happy moment when ManLove Mondays collide! David Giuintoli of Grimm poses with Cullen Jones, Olympic swimmer. Guess those snuggles made a splash...and is that a bit of scruff I spy, Cullen? We've come full circle! Is this a sign that the universe is sharing in ManLove Mondays? I like to think so. Now, onto today's manlove moments...
