Agenda

  1. Prerequisites
  2. Navigate to your Project
  3. Add a Remote Node
  4. Configure an Allocation Supply
  5. Verification

This tutorial will teach you how to add a Remote Node to a Rapid.Space Project through the Panel, on which Allocation Supplies can be configured to allow the allocation of software instances and shared instances in another project, through requests that are made in your own Project.

The example used in this document is that of a Remote Node to the Canary.CDN project which allows requesting and successfully allocating CDN frontends in your own project.

Prerequisites

  • A Rapid.Space Project

For this tutorial, you will only need a Rapid.Space Project for which you have management rights.

Navigate to your Project

Log in to the Rapid.Space Panel, then navigate to your Project's main page by clicking on Projects in the Global tab on the left of the screen.

In the Projects list on the following page, click on your Project to be taken to its main page.

Add a Remote Node

Now, click on Add Remote Node in the Actions tab on the left of the screen.

In the action's form, fill in the three fields as follows:

  • Title: Choose a descriptive name that will allow you to identify your Remote Node quickly and unambiguously. A good example here would be Remote to Canary.CDN.
  • Remote Project: From the dropdown list, choose the project to which you want to link the Remote Node to.
NOTE: If you cannot find the desired project, you are likely not a member of that project and will need to contact a Rapid.Space administrator through a ticket to be added.
  • Partition Amount: Enter the amount of partitions you'd like to have available. If you only wish to request shared instances and not regular software instances, set this to 0.

Once everything is filled to your liking, click on the Add Remote Node button to confirm.

Configure an Allocation Supply

You should now be redirected to the new Remote Node's page, with a green notification confirming the operation's success appearing at the bottom right.

To be able to allocate software on the destination Project through the Remote Node, you will need to have a proper Allocation Supply set up for it, just as if you were requesting a software instance in your own Project.

To do so, click on Add Allocation Supply in the Actions menu on the left. If needed, this tutorial explains the details of the procedure: HowTo Add an Allocation Supply on the SlapOS Panel.
Even though the document is for a Compute Node Allocation Supply, the principle remains the same and the steps can be applied identically here.

Verification

Once the Allocation Supply is configured and validated, everything should be ready and shared instances should be allocable in the destination Project through the new Remote Node.

To test this, simply request a software instance or shared instance of the correct Software Product and check that it is correctly allocated.
