Vania André is the publisher and editor-in-chief of The Haitian Times. Under her leadership, The Haitian Times has evolved from a local weekly publication to a globally recognized brand, chronicling the vibrant Haitian community across borders. With over a decade of dedicated service, Vania oversees all facets of editorial, product, audience engagement, and business operations, collaborating closely with the executive team to drive organizational strategy and implementation.

Vania is also an assistant professor of journalism, media studies, and public relations at The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University; and principal and founder of MUSER, a full-service creative agency specializing in integrated branding, marketing, and public relations campaigns.


Cherrell Angervil

Brand & Audience Director

Cherrell Angervil is the Brand and Audience Engagement Director for The Haitian Times. Cherrell has played a pivotal role in designing and executing campaigns that resonate with audiences, demonstrating a keen understanding of brand dynamics and community engagement. Her innovative strategies have significantly boosted brand recognition and cultivated a strong sense of community among a diverse readership. Cherrell excels in creating visually compelling content and leveraging interactive social media initiatives to connect with and engage audiences.

Cherrell is also the founder of CangMedia, a digital media management agency. Drawing upon her design sensibilities and communication insights, she has honed her skills in developing and executing strategies that leverage captivating digital content. Her talent for unraveling the intricacies of audience preferences and crafting compelling narratives has consistently elevated the brands she’s partnered with, making her a valuable asset in the digital media landscape.


Juhakenson Blaise

Senior Reporter

Juhakenson Blaise is a senior reporter for The Haitian Times and the newspaper’s correspondent in Port-au-Prince. He covers a wide range of topics in Haiti, from breaking news to feature stories on various aspects of Haitian life, including culture, economics, politics, and gang violence. He joined The Haitian Times in April 2022. After studying journalism in 2018, he worked for various media outlets in Haiti, including radio stations, television channels, and newspapers. Passionate about poetry, he is also a slam poetry champion in Haiti.


Ralph “Onz” Chery

Cap-Haitien Reporter

Onz Chéry is the Cap-Haïtien reporter and sports writer for The Haitian Times. Chéry started his career with The Haitian Times in 2019, two years after graduating from The City College of New York. During his time with the paper, Chéry covered the Haitian-American community in Florida, President Jovenel Moïse’s assassination, the 2021 earthquake in Haiti, and other shattering moments of the country and its diaspora.


Jose Flécher

Agriculture & Environment Reporter

José Flécher is a reporter for The Haitian Times in Port-au-Prince. He specializes in the agricultural and environmental sectors and has worked for the newspaper since June 2024. He studied social communication from 2005 to 2009 and has devoted his whole life to writing, particularly journalistic editorial. José Flécher covers activities in Port-au-Prince and has written articles on several natural sites in the deep south of Haiti.


Edxon Francisque

General Assignment Reporter

Edxon Francisque is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in radio broadcasting. His experiences in radio diffusion include serving as a correspondent for Radio Nationale d’Haiti 105.3 FM and contributing to Radio Tele Kalalou International, an online media platform. Additionally, he has showcased his skills as a presenter for the journal Alliance Actualité at Radio Alliance Ouanaminthe.

Regarding academic pursuits, Edxon studied economics at the State University of Haiti. He completed professional journalism studies at the Ecole Professionnelle de Ouanaminthe in 2020. He has also engaged in communication studies at the Alliance Francaise branch in the North, annex Fort-Liberte.


Onès Joseph

Onès Joseph is a seasoned journalist with a rich and diverse professional background. His academic training in journalism started at Vision R+ Journalism School in Port-au-Prince. He has earned a bachelor’s degree in computerized accounting from Julien Crâne in Gonaïves.

Additionally, he has participated in several seminars and training programs organized by reputable institutions such as UNESCO, the Minister of Communication and Culture, the Haitian Journalist Association (AJH), Panos Caribbean, Minustah, and OFis Proteksyon Sitwayen (OPC).

Onès’ professional journey as a journalist spans over 16 years, during which he has contributed to various esteemed media outlets, including Solidarity Radio, Signal FM, Pacifique in Port-au-Prince, Radio Étincelle, Radio Explosion, Clarté FM, Radio Classique FM in Gonaïves, Radio Évolution Inter, Radio L’union in Saint-Marc, and more. His extensive work experience reflects his dedication and expertise in the field of journalism.


Kervenson Martial

General Assignment Reporter

Kervenson Martial is a dedicated professional with a strong academic and professional background. Since 2019, he has gained valuable experience as a journalist and radio reporter at Nationale D’Haiti (RNH) in Port-de-Paix. He has also served as a journalist and presenter of a political analysis program on RG80; 88.5 & 88.9 FM in Port-de-Paix and worked as a correspondent for the online media l’œil info. pro in northwestern Haiti.

Kervenson completed his studies at the Faculties of Administrative and Political Sciences at Valparaiso University. He also obtained a communication certificate from the Francophone Higher Institute of Haiti (ISFH) and completed a data journalism certification program with UNESCO. He studied journalism at the Technical School Refuge of the North-West (RETNO). He is fluent in French and Creole and has a reasonable level of proficiency in English and Spanish.


Macollvie J. Neel

Special Projects Editor

Macollvie J. Neel currently serves as the Special Projects Editor of The Haitian Times, leading investigations, enterprise packages and explantory features. She writes occasionally about Haitians in New York and a twice-monthly column opining on communications as a force for good, careers and the workplace, and the immigrant experience from a Haitian American lens. Once an intern at The Haitian Times, Macollvie is proud to have returned in 2020 to guide the outlet through award-winning coverage of the Haitian president’s assassination, rise of criminal organizations (gangs) and presence of diaspora communities beyond the U.S.

Outside the Haitian universe, Macollvie puts her business degrees and communications consulting experience to use helping professionals and brands shape and write their own stories. She recently published “Scripts for Success: Workplace Communication Templates to Advance Your Career,” a professional development book.


Fritznel D. Octave

Haiti Editor

Fritznel D. Octave, a writer and award-winning journalist with over 25 years of experience covering Haitian news, serves as the Haiti Editor of The Haitian Times. He leads coverage of Haiti, including breaking news and feature stories impacting Haitian lives and possibilities at crossroads toward solutions to multiple challenges. Upon joining The Haitian Times in Spring 2024, he successfully led a project to expand the publication’s team of reporters from Port-au-Prince — the Haitian capital — to the provinces and assist with their training and continuing professional development. He also serves as Executive Editor and Co-Host of the 1804 Renaissance, a podcast dedicated to showcasing Haitian culture, history, heritage, and potential.

Fritznel has gained extensive experience through years of on-the-ground reporting, spanning diverse media platforms, including print, radio, and online. His recent book, Haiti Between Pestilence and Hope — available on Amazon.com — highlights his deep understanding of Haiti. Beyond journalism, Fritznel holds an MBA in international business from Florida Atlantic University. He is the founder of F.O.A Trust Solutions, a company specializing in business development and personal growth coaching.


Garry Pierre-Pierre

Founder & Publisher

Garry Pierre-Pierre, a Pulitzer Prize-winning multimedia journalist, is a leading voice on Haiti, the Haitian diaspora and community media. Pierre-Pierre founded and serves as publisher of The Haitian Times, which provides quality, nuanced information about Haiti and its diaspora. He was also a Sulzberger Executive Leadership fellow at Columbia University, where he explored ways to serve the Haitian diaspora worldwide. A former reporter at The New York Times, where he won a Pulitzer Prize, Pierre-Pierre is a recognized leader in media entrepreneurship circles.

He is the co-founder and first executive director of the Center for Community Media at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. In 2011, he was elected president of the New York Press Association, the first person of color to serve in that role. Pierre-Pierre’s works include “30 Seconds: The Quake that Destroyed Haiti,” a book of photography about Haiti’s 2010 earthquake. His contributions have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Miami Herald, Essence, The Griot and The Root – among countless outlets. Pierre-Pierre is a fixture on major TV and cable networks, often called upon to provide context and nuance about Haiti.


Rejy Joseph Roc

Director of Product & Technology

Rejy Joseph Roc is the Director of Product & Technology at The Haitian Times, where he plays a key role in developing and managing the publication’s online presence. He leads technological initiatives and ensures that the organization’s digital products are both innovative and functional.

With a degree in Computer Science and a diploma in Business Management from École Supérieure d’Infotronique d’Haïti, Rejy combines his technical expertise with an artistic vision to deliver high-quality digital solutions. Passionate about learning, he loves writing articles and is also an avid photographer. His expertise covers all aspects of digital product management, including development, optimization, and maintenance.

In addition to his responsibilities at The Haitian Times, Rejy is the founder of CapKop, a tech organization dedicated to training young people and creating on-demand technology products.
