Cape Cod’s median home price is over $750,000—more than double the national average—requiring a $220K income, while the average Cape Cod resident earns just $89K.
Essential workers can no longer afford to live on the Cape, pushing them off-Cape in search of affordable housing.
Critical services are strained: fire and police departments are understaffed, healthcare wait times are rising, and both families and seniors face housing instability.

Together, we can turn the tide, supporting smarter housing solutions to ensure a thriving, inclusive Cape Cod for generations to come.

Protecting the Environment Through Housing

Cape Cod faces serious challenges in providing sufficient housing for its citizens as well as ensuring the protection of its remaining natural resources areas, including the region’s water resources. The Association to Preserve Cape Cod and Housing Assistance undertook a mapping project that uses the best available existing data and GIS technology to identify priority areas for natural resource protection and priority areas for affordable moderate-density housing development.
