Welcome to Hack the North, Canada’s biggest hackathon. 1,000 students from around the world come together at the University of Waterloo to experiment, connect and create in 36 hours. We hope you're as excited as we are for an awesome weekend! After the Friday night kickoff, all teams are allowed to begin working on their apps. You can then submit your app using the above Submissions tab (which will appear after you hit the Register button). All submissions must be in by 9:00 AM Sunday morning (Sept 18).
Once hacking ends we will schedule you for a short demo to a panel of 3 judges.
Eligibility
- Teams can have a maximum of 4 members
- All members must be physically present at Hack the North
- All members of the team must have been accepted by the signup process
- You will be asked to disclose your project's source code in order to receive a prize (We recommend using github to commit all your code changes)

Hack the North will award each member on the team with a choice of: XBOX One, Playstation 4, iPad, Any drone of your choice, Oculus Rift, Any smart watch of your choice (including the apple watch), Go Pro, along with a subscription to a yearly amazon prime, hulu or netflix.
CockroachDB
Cockroach Labs will award $2500 to the team that best utilises CockroachDB.
Google Cloud Platform
Google will award a Google smartwatch from a variety of options to each member of the team that best utilises the Google Cloud Platform.
Canadian Open Data
The Canadian Open Data Exchange will award a $500 Apple gift card to the team that best utilises Canadian Open Data.
Coinbase API
Coinbase will award $1000 in bitcoin and a guaranteed interview for an internship at Coinbase to the team that best utilises the Coinbase API.
Linode API
Linode will award a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 to each member of the team that best utilises the Linode API.
Microsoft Azure
Microsoft will award a Surface Pro 4 and Surface Arc Mouse to each member of the team that best utilises Microsoft Azure.
Oculus Rift
Facebook will award an Oculus Rift DK2 to each member of the team that best utilises the Oculus Rift.
PagerDuty API
Pagerduty will award a customised Beats Pill speaker to each member of the team that best utilises the Pagerduty API.
XE.com API
XE.com will award a Protocol Galileo Quadcopter Drone to each member of the team that best utilises the XE.com API.
Yelp API
Yelp will award a Leap Motion to each member of the team that best utilises the Yelp API.
Firebase API
Firebase will award, to each member of the team that best utilises the Firebase API:
A tiny Android phone,
An even smaller Lego kit of a famous architectural landmark,
and a massive hunk of glass, molded into trophy form (1x per team)
Amazon Web Services
MLH will award a 1TB Hard drive to each member of the team that best utilises Amazon Web Services.
Domain.com
MLH will award a Domain.com swag bags to each member of the team that has the best domain name on Domain.com. Please include your domain name in your devpost submission.

How to enter
Only current students in University or High School who have been accepted to Hack the North are eligible to make submissions. The team members of each project will be verified and any attempts of cheating will result in disqualification for the whole team.

The potential for your hack to become a company/startup will receive no special consideration. You are not allowed to use powerpoint/slides during judging, you must demo what you made.
