On the occasion of the World Logic Day in January,  the AI Society and Professor Gopal Gupta’s ALPS Lab will be organizing the 4th HackReason Hackathon. The HackReason hacakathon will be held on January 16th and 17th. HackReason is focused on promoting logic-based AI and automated reasoning, specifically, automated commonsense reasoning using UT Dallas’ home-grown s(CASP) logic programming system. The idea is to build AI applications using the s(CASP) logic programming system in a 24-hour period. The application you build will employ automated reasoning. You can see the details of 3rd HackReason (held in January 2022) here and the projects that were done by various teams here. No knowledge of AI or logic is needed. However, knowing how to program in some language (Java, C++, Python, etc.) and proficiency in programming will be helpful.

Two 2.5-hour tutorial sessions to teach logic programming and the s(CASP) system will be held on January 10th (Friday) and January 13th  (Monday). These will be taught by Professor Gopal Gupta. These sessions will be offered both in-person as well as online. They will run from 2:30-5:00pm. Place TBA (most likely an ECSS or ECSW classroom). Teams link will be available upon registration.

The HackReason Hackathon will run from Noon, January 16th to Noon, January 17th. The hackathon will be online, including mentoring and judging.

Requirements

Project submission will be in the form of a short 4- to 5-minute video talking about your project and giving a demo of what you built. You will have Noon to 2pm (on January 17th) to prepare your video submission. The video will be submitted through DevPost. The project must be done in s(CASP) that will be taught to you on January 10th and January 13th. You may also submit your s(CASP) code. The judges may ask a team questions after the team’s submission video is played.

Additionally, all teams should include the UTD-issued Net ID for each participant (or their email with additional context regarding their invitation).
