SUBMISSION OF ANY KIND AND/OR PARTICIPATION BY EACH MEMBER AND INDIVIDUAL IN THIS HACKATHON CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES.

Overview

The Spatial Computing Hackathon by HackReality is a skill-based event where participants develop innovative projects within the Hackathon’s themes: Spatial Computing, Wearables Development, and Prototyping. Projects will be evaluated by a set of judges based on judging criteria, and prizes will be awarded to the winning submissions.

1. Binding Agreement

By entering the Hackathon, participants agree to comply with these Official Rules. Participants who do not agree are ineligible to participate. Please, read these Rules carefully to ensure that you understand and agree to these Official Rules.

2. Eligibility

  • Age Requirement: Participants must be 18 years or older.
  • Background: Open to individuals from all backgrounds, genders, and nationalities. No previous experience required
  • Participation Restrictions: Organizers, sponsorts, mentors, judges and their inmediate family members are ineligible to participate as contestants.

    • Must be registered through official channels
    • Must form teams of up to 5 members

  • Submission Deadline: December 15, 2024 (12:00 P.M. GMT+01:00 [Madrid] Time)
  • Presentations Period: December 15, 2024 (12:00 P.M. GMT+01:00 [Madrid] Time) – December 15, 2024 (02:00: P.M. GMT+01:00 [Madrid] Time)
  • Judging Period: December 15, 2024 (02:00 P.M. GMT+01:00 [Madrid] Time) – December 15, 2024 (03:00: P.M. GMT+01:00 [Madrid] Time)
  • Winners Announced/Closing Event: Around December 15, 2024 (03:00 P.M. GMT+01:00 [Madrid] Time) – December 15, 2024 (04:00: P.M. GMT+01:00 [Madrid] Time)

4. How to Enter

Participants may enter by visiting hackreality-spatial-computing.devpost.com and following these steps in the opening site:

  • Register for the Hackathon by clicking the “Join Hackathon” button. To complete registration, sign up to create a free Devpost account, or log in with an existing Devpost account. This will enable you to receive important updates and to create your Submission.
  • Entrants will obtain access to the required developer tools/platform and complete a Project described below in Project Requirements. Use of the developer tools will be subject to the license agreement related thereto. Entry in the Hackathon constitutes consent for the Sponsor and Devpost to collect and maintain an entrant’s personal information for the purpose of operating and publicizing the Hackathon.
  • Complete and enter all of the required fields on the “Enter a Submission” page of the Hackathon Website (each a “Submission”) during the Submission Period and follow the requirements below.

What to Create

Participants must create a working prototype that addresses challenges in Spatial Computing. The project must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Theme Focus: Projects must focus on Spatial Computing applications and demonstrate innovative use of tools such as AR/VR technologies, real-time 3D rendering, location-based services...
  • Development Period: All projects must be developed from scratch during the specified development period.
  • Use of Tools and Frameworks: Participants are encouraged to leverage the following tools and technologies provided:
    • Design Tools: Figma, Blender
    • Development Tools: Unity, AR/VR toolkits, and other relevant frameworks
  • Innovation: Projects must provide solutions to clearly defined problems and showcase the potential for scalability and real-world application.

Submission Requirements and Project Deliverables

Every deliverable and project submitted to this hackathon must be entirely in English or Spanish, any other deliverable containing information in a different language will be omitted.

To ensure fair evaluation and maximize the learning experience, participants must adhere to the following project requirements. All deliverables must be submitted through the HackReality DevPost Submission Platform before the deadline.

All project submissions must include the following:

  1. Project Repository:
    • Hosted on a public platform (e.g., GitHub).
    • Include comprehensive documentation detailing setup instructions, technical stack, and other relevant information.
  2. Project Presentation:
    • 3-Minute Video Presentation: A video that highlights the project’s purpose, features, and functionality. The video must be:
      • Publicly accessible via platforms like YouTube or Vimeo.
      • Focused on showing the project in action.
    • 3-Minute Live Session:
      • Q&A with Judges: Participants must be ready to answer questions about their project.
      • Live demo of the working prototype.
  3. Project Documentation:
    • Challenge Description: A brief overview of the problem or challenge addressed by the project.
    • Team Contributions: Description of each team member's role and their specific contributions.
    • Development Timeline: A step-by-step outline of the project’s development during the hackathon.
    • Implementation Details: Key decisions made during development and strategies for implementation.
    • Technical Stack: A list of all tools, frameworks, and technologies used.
    • Lessons Learned: Challenges faced during development and how they were resolved.
    • Future Possibilities: Discussion of scalability, sustainability, and potential enhancements for the project.
  4. Prototype Functionality:
    • The prototype must be functional and demonstrate the core idea effectively, performing as described in the submission materials.
    • The prototype must be developed entirely during the 48-hour hackathon period.
    • All necessary files must be included in the repository for testing.

Submission Ownership

  • All projects must be the original work of the participants.
  • Submissions must comply with open-source licenses for any external libraries, frameworks, or assets used.
  • Projects must not infringe on the intellectual property rights of any individual or entity.

Testing Requirements

  • Projects must be accessible for evaluation by judges via the provided repository and live demo.
  • If the prototype includes hardware or third-party devices not widely available, participants may be asked for a more detailed live demo or to provide access to the equipment for testing purposes.

Evaluation Guidelines and Requirements

  • Originality: Projects must be developed from scratch during the hackathon and should not have been submitted to previous competitions.
  • Content: Projects must align with the Hackathon theme and must not contain any illegal, obscene, or offensive material.
  • Theme Alignment: All submissions must align with the hackathon’s theme of Spatial Computing and related technologies.
  • Documentation Standards: Ensure clear and detailed documentation for judges to review and evaluate your project.
  • Deadlines: All submissions must be completed and submitted via DevPost before the deadline. Late entries and submissions will not be considered.

5. Judging criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

1. Alignment with the Challenge and Functionality
  • Does the project align with the core theme of Spatial Computing and the hackathon’s objectives?
  • Does the solution address a problem related to the challenge effectively?
  • Is the presented prototype functional and reliable?
  • Were advanced or complex technologies used effectively and appropriately?
2. Innovation and Creativity
  • How innovative is the project?
  • Does it propose a novel approach to solving the problem or improving existing solutions?
  • Is the problem addressed in a unique or creative way?
3. Impact, Scalability, Implementability, and Sustainability
  • How significant is the problem being addressed?
  • Can the solution scale to address broader challenges or larger audiences?
  • Is the project practical and feasible to implement?
  • Can the solution be maintained and supported using sustainable resources?
4. Usability and User Experience
  • How well executed is the application’s design and functionality?
  • Is the application intuitive and easy to navigate?
  • Is the design accessible to a wide range of users, including individuals with disabilities?
  • Does the design enhance the overall experience and usability?
5. Submissions and Presentation
  • Was the solution presented clearly and concisely?
  • Did the team effectively highlight the benefits of their solution?
  • Were the judges’ questions answered thoroughly and convincingly?
  • Did the team demonstrate a clear planning process and strategy in developing the project?

Judges will score each criterion equally, and the highest-scoring submissions will be eligible for prizes. In the event of a tie, the Impact, Scalability, Implementability, and Sustainability category will be used as a tiebreaker.

General Prize Information

  1. Prize Distribution:
    • Monetary and physical prizes will be distributed directly to the winning team or individual participants as applicable.
    • NFT certificates will be issued electronically and linked to the participant’s wallet address for verification.
  2. Mentoring Sessions:
    • Winners will schedule their sessions after the event. Details will be coordinated via email.
  3. Private Visit to Google Málaga:
    • The visit will include a guided tour, networking opportunities, and a showcase of Google’s cutting-edge workspaces and projects. Travel expenses are not covered. The date and time for the visit will be provided by the organizers and cannot be modified. Details will be provided via email to the winners.

7. Intellectual Property

  • Entrants retain ownership of their submissions.
  • All submissions must be open source, and HackReality retains the right to showcase and promote the projects publicly.

8. Code of Conduct

Our hackathon's follows the Hack Code of Conduct made by Cristiano Betta.

9. Disqualification

The following actions may result in disqualification:

  • Submitting plagiarized work.
  • Violating Hackathon rules, Code of Conduct or local laws.
  • Harassing other participants or organizers.

10. Data Protection

Participants’ personal data will be collected solely for the purposes of the Hackathon. By entering, participants consent to the use of their data in accordance with applicable laws and HackReality’s privacy policy.

11. Liability Release

HackReality organizers are not responsible for:

  • Any injury or loss sustained during participation.
  • Damage or theft of personal equipment.

12. Modification or Cancellation

HackReality reserves the right to modify or cancel the Hackathon if unforeseen circumstances arise.
