Welcome to Hack Cambridge Atlas! We are excited to spend an amazing weekend with you - online or in-person and we cannot wait to see the brilliant ideas you have! Together in 24 hours, you can make some (small, maybe, but innovative) changes to the world.

As the 7th season of the largest student-run hackathon in Cambridge, Hack Cambridge Atlas is an incredible opportunity for you to explore all possibilities in a sprint-like event. HC hopes to bring keen, ambitious and talented university students together and create original and innovative solutions for social good. Together with your energy, creativity, hacker spirit, we hope to empower a better, more sustainable future.

With a strong belief in the responsibility we have towards our loved ones and the wider society, we ask: how should we consciously utilise the power of coding to change this ever-evolving world, for the better? How can we connect the dots to turn knowledge and skills into social improvements?

More details of the challenge(s) will be released during the opening ceremony! Here is a detailed schedule of the days:

Requirements

We would require the submission to be in the form of a GitHub repository submitted onto Devpost. To allow for problem solving and preparation of the judging process, you must have a project created and the sponsor challenges tagged in your submission by 7am GMT on Sunday, otherwise you may be ineligible for some challenges.

If you would like to be considered for the prizes, you need to give a short live presentation about your project to the judges. This will be in-person/online through Discord.

The hard submission deadline is 12 noon GMT on Sunday 23rd January and any further submission after this will be disregarded. More detailed rules for submission can be found on our Devpost page.

Judging Criteria

  • Innovation
At Hack Cambridge, we love to see things that we've never seen before. Whether it's a new use of an existing technology or maybe something entirely new, we want to see something that breaks boundaries.
  • Technical Excellence
Good projects don't just materialize out of thin air. They require hard work and dedication and we want to see you really stretch the limits of what you are capable of.
  • Societal Impact
In line with our theme, it’s important to us that you’ve thought about how your hack can make a positive contribution to the wider society.
  • Commercial / Social Enterprise Potential
You may be able to craft a creative and technically complex project, but can your project survive in the commercial world? We’ll be looking for projects with strong commercial prospects.
  • Polish
Getting a project completed in time for a hackathon deadline can be a real scramble. However, we want to see something that's slick and well polished. If it weren't for the context, you would think it would have taken weeks or even months to build!
