About the challenge
Hackers will be challenged to create a project of their choice, seamlessly integrating a retro-style GUI in their front end interface. The content of the program is up to the discretion of the hackers, and creativity regarding the relationship between teh hack and the GUI is strongly encouraged.
Get started
- Pick your project goal
- Map out your pseudocode or logic paths
- Roughly determine how to integrate your GUI (perhaps do this earlier?)
- Start coding!
Requirements
What to Build
The content of the hack is entirely up to the hackers, however it must incorporate a retro-styled GUI. Hacks are encouraged to feature a frontend and backend that can be easily split between a server and client, however entirely clientside programs are permitted.
What to Submit
Please submit your entire program in a .zip format, including any files relevant to its use. Please include a .readme if special instructions are needed to run the hack.

Judging Criteria
-
Creativity/Originality
/5 points How original/creative your idea is. Is your project unique? Your project can be based off of something else or an improvement on an exiting program, but it needs to bring something new to the table. Simply remastering a program is not original. -
Complexity
/10 points The amount of effort required to make this hack successful. Note that we do not care about unnecessary fancy operations and libraries. -
Efficiency
/3 points Efficiency will be judged based off of code comments, layout, and eloquence. Keep your code clean and avoid brute-force operations for full points. -
Efficacy
/10 points How effective is your hack? These points will be awarded based off of how effective your hack is at what it is supposed to do. Submit your planner with your initial objective to be eligible for full points. -
GUI Integration
/5 points Points will be awarded based off of both aesthetics and integration. Does your GUI look good? Does it work properly and in an intuitive manner? Does a retro style work with your hack? -
Application/Value
/5 points What is the real-world context of your hack? Does it bring real value to the world?
