Welcome to Hack Day Jalingo, a community-powered hackathon designed to spark creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning right here in Taraba! Whether you’re a first–time hacker or a seasoned builder, this is your space to explore ideas, meet new people, and bring something meaningful to life.

This hackathon is open-ended any type of project is welcome. Web, mobile, hardware, AI, design experiments, quirky prototypes… if you can imagine it, you can build it. We believe innovation should be inclusive and fun, and Hack Day Jalingo brings together students, developers, designers, and tech enthusiasts for one day of high-energy building.

🚀 Special Challenge: Build With Google Gemini

While the hackathon welcomes all project types, our main prize will go to a project that creatively uses Google Gemini either through its APIs, multimodal capabilities, or by integrating Gemini into a solution that solves a real problem.
We’re excited to see how you experiment with AI: maybe it's a smart productivity tool, an educational assistant, a community-focused innovation, or something we haven’t imagined yet.

At the end of the day, teams will demo their projects, celebrate each other’s creativity, and discover new ideas born right here in Jalingo.

Requirements

Hackathon Requirements

To keep Hack Day Jalingo fair, fun, and focused, please make sure your submission meets the following requirements:

1. Project Submission
  • All projects must be submitted on DevPost before the deadline.

  • Submissions should include:

    • A short description of the project

    • Key features and what makes it unique

    • Screenshots, demo images, or videos

    • A GitHub repo link or any link to your code/work

2. Original Work
  • Projects must be built during the hackathon.

  • You can use existing libraries, open-source tools, frameworks, and APIs, but the core project must be newly created for this event.

3. Team Size
  • You can work solo or in teams of up to 4 people.

4. Any Project is Welcome
  • You are free to build any type of project: web, mobile, AI, hardware, design prototype, or anything creative.

5. Eligibility for the Main Prize
  • To qualify for the Top Prize, your project must integrate Google Gemini in some meaningful way.
    Examples include:

    • Using the Gemini API in your app

    • Building a multimodal AI-powered tool

    • Using Gemini for text, images, audio, or code features

    • Creative/experimental uses of Gemini

6. Demo
  • Each team must present a short demo (in person or video) that clearly shows what the project does.

7. Respect and Conduct
  • Participants must follow the event’s Code of Conduct.

  • Be respectful, collaborate kindly, and help maintain a friendly environment for everyone.

Judging Criteria

  • Use of Google Gemini
    Projects will be judged on creativity, functionality, impact, and clarity of presentation. Teams competing for the main prize must also show effective use of Google Gemini and demonstrate how the AI meaningfully supports their solution.
