About E-Resource Trials

The following databases are being evaluated by Yale University Library on a trial basis. Decisions to acquire databases at the conclusion of the trial period are contingent upon availability of funds, appropriateness to the collection, and user feedback. Shakespeare and Silent Film

Trial Period: April 7, 2026 - May 7, 2026

This digital resource of early Shakespearean cinematic adaptations draws from the British Film Institute's archives.  It covers films made between 1899 and 1927 from across Western Europe, the USA and Australia and records global silent film practices and the transition from stage to screen as cinema emerged as a new medium.

Policy Commons: Applied Environmental Science

Trial Period: March 17, 2026 - April 30, 2026

Applied Science Commons indexes real-world STEM related research from a range of global sources, including corporations, industry professionals, consultants, government agencies, research institutes, and more. The database integrates websites, blogs, and other nontraditional sources into the academic workflow. These documents are accessible, searchable, and downloadable in Applied Science Commons modules.

Consensus is an AI-powered search engine that can help find peer-reviewed literature, conduct literature reviews, and access evidence-based research with proper citations. Consensus is built to address the major risks of AI in academic research, including hallucinations.

Lexikon der christlichen Ikonographie Online

Trial Period: March 23, 2026 - April 23, 2026

The Lexikon der christlichen Ikonographie (LCI) is an online version of an eight-volume iconographical reference work on motifs of Christian tradition prepared by Kirschbaum and his successors. Volumes 1-4 cover general iconographic terms, giving the context of individual subjects and themes. Volumes 5-8 cover the iconography of saints. This resource is full-text searchable in German, and can be easily translated to English, French, Italian, and Dutch, with versions of the original German automatically provided.


Ethnomusicology: Global Field Recordings

Trial Period: February 18, 2026 - March 18, 2026

Ethnomusicology: Global Field Recordings is composed of audio field recordings, educational recordings, film footage, field notebooks, slides, correspondence, and ephemera from over 60 fields of study, including sites in West Africa, North America, and South East Asia. Topics in the collection include cultural identity, social norms, religion and ritual, and gender roles. This resource is produced in collaboration with the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive. It covers the period from 1950-1980.


Gender: Identity and Social Change

Trial Period: November 13, 2025 - December 13, 2025

This resource  includes primary sources for the study of gender history, women’s suffrage, the feminist movement and the men’s movement. Other key areas represented in the material include: employment and labour, education, government and legislation, the body, domesticity and the family. Explore records from men’s and women’s organisations and pressure groups, detailing twentieth-century lobbying and activism on a wide array of issues to reveal developing gender relations and prevalent challenges.


Latin American Histories in the United States

Trial Period: November 6, 2025 - December 4, 2025

This resource brings together various archival collections from across the United States, providing access to primary sources describing the experience of Latina/o/x/e communities across the country, with a focus on underrepresented identities, including Latinas, LGBTQ+, and Afro-Latina/o/x/e. It highlights grassroots and community-generated content, providing records of everyday life, but also how individuals and communities fought for their rights and cultural freedom during the Civil Rights era, the growth of movements, the exchange of ideas, the development of distinct political identities, and expressions of self through art and culture during the mid-to-late twentieth century.


 

Mexico in History: Colonialism to Revolution

Trial Period: November 6, 2025 - December 4, 2025

This resource explores the evolution of Mexico from c.1500 to 1929, covering a vast range of Mexican history from Spanish colonisation and the formation of New Spain through the Mexican War of Independence to the Mexican Revolution. The predominantly Spanish-language material is a combination of print, manuscript and photographic collections sourced from The Bancroft Library at the University of California Berkeley. 


 

Global Press Archive: Prensa Libre

Trial Period: November 6, 2025 - December 6, 2025

This resource provides access to a newspaper, published in Guatemala City, conceived with the purpose of maintaining an independant voice, o provide impartial reporting on local news and bringing to light transgressions of government and public figures. Provides access to content from 1951 to 2024. 


State Papers Online: Colonial Asia - Parts II and III

Trial Period: October 31, 2025 - December 1, 2025

This resource provides access to the digitized Colonial Office files of the British Government, housed at the National Archives, United Kingdom. They record Britain's administration and governance of countries under Britain's colonial rule, their international relations across the period, and the changing demographics and daily life of their inhabitants. This colonial history continues to influence these now-independent countries today through chosen strategic alliances, institutional structures, and how they deal with their colonial legacy.


Bloomsbury Architecture Library – Core Collection

Trial Period: October 30, 2025 - November 29, 2025

This is a collection for the study of architecture, urbanism, and interior design. It is an interactive resource that offers access to wide-ranging text and image content, from architectural history to cutting-edge design guidance.


Bloomsbury Global Encyclopedia of Women in Architecture

Trial Period: October 30, 2025 - November 29, 2025

This reference work covers women architects and their work, for students, scholars, and professional architects. This encyclopedia introduceswomen of the global built world, within a geographical and historical framework.


CAS BioFinder

Trial Period: October 15, 2025 - December 31, 2025

This resource is a new life ife sciences platform that provides drug discovery scientists with the ability to explore known and predicted data, find answers to their questions quickly and reliably, and accelerate the pre-clinical drug discovery process.


Policy Commons: World Cities and Local Governments

Trial Period: September 22, 2025 - October 31, 2025 - extended through December 17, 2025

This resource includes reports, surveys, and research reports from cities and local urban agencies around the world. The materials support research and learning in issues of race and religion, health, sustainability, gender, the arts, sports, education, and more.


Policy Commons: World Governments

Trial Period: September 22, 2025 - October 31, 2025 - extended through December 17, 2025

This resource includes publications of national, provincial, and state governments from around the world. World Governments includes comprehensive coverage of the UK, Ireland, Canada, US Federal agencies, and Oceania, with additional select coverage of additional national, state, and regional governments and agencies across many countries.

Trial Period: October 16, 2025 - November 13, 2025

In the latter half of the Edo period, between 1800 and 1816, Tadataka Inō conducted the first comprehensive survey of Japan. He created a detailed map known as the "Inō-zu or Inō Map," comprising 244 large maps and two "Edo Prefecture Maps." These maps have been digitized using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The digitized maps allow for the searching of surveyed roads, coastlines, lodging areas, and various place names, including villages, counties, countries, temple and shrine names, castles, and natural features. In addition, the survey diary has been digitized and transcribed, making it searchable. Users can view Ino-maps as well as five other types of maps, including standard maps from the Geographical Survey Institute, which enable searches for historical and contemporary place names, accommodation locations, and dates.


Social History Archive: Newspapers

Trial Period: September 4, 2025 to October 4th, 2025  - Extended to October 24, 2025

This resource includes over 45 million newspaper pages and 1,850 titles from the British Library’s holdings. It includes materials dating from the 1700s to the 2000s. Many patrons have requested access to the British Newspaper Archive (BNA) over the years.
