This mailing list aims to encourage minor planet observers to work together as part of the activities of the British Astronomical Association.
The section conducts observing campaigns to follow specific minor planets at favourable apparitions.
One main aim is to determine accurate rotation periods and their associated phase curves of small bodies that have yet to be properly characterised.
Absolute photometry is the main technique employed. Extremely slow rotators can be identified with this approach. We also are conducting a special study of the Themis family of asteroids, which often can be observed at very low phase angles permitting the surface regolith of these bodies to be characterised.
