HOW GRINNZ IS MADE.

2,048-piece NFT collection featuring handcrafted 3D masks, each paired with a unique 1/1 line art animation.

THE CONCEPT

GRINNZ is a 2048 piece NFT collection on Solana that humorously critiques the personas we construct in the NFT, crypto, and social media worlds.

Featuring masks with exaggerated smiles and oversized teeth, the collection symbolizes the superficiality, hypocrisy, and hidden truths behind online identities.

GRINNZ challenges us to reflect on the masks we wear and the question: Are we who we seem to be online, or is there more beneath the surface?

THE ANATOMY OF EACH PIECE

Hundreds of 3D designed traits combined together to bring a mask alive. Each tells a unique story as they have 2048 hand-drawn seed phrase inspired 1/1 line-art animations.

The seed phrase trait is uniquely inspired by each of the mnemonic words on the BIP39 protocol, the keys to blockchain.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

1. Concept & research

Researching identity building, mask relations in cultures, and digital anonymities while sketching the craziest ideas I had in mind.

2. Line-art drawings for 2048 seed phrases

Drawing 2048 pieces on Procreate, for each of the line art ‘seed phrase’ trait I was inspired by one of the different words from the BIP39 protocol.

3. The 3D modeling with variations

3D modeling hundreds of traits on Blender to find the best combinations.

4. Presise textures, lighting, tones

Iterating until the vibe fits for the GRINNZ concept and world including textures, lights, tones, renders…

5. Combining the masks & animation

With the animations [3 frames per NFT] this makes 6000+ drawings done for a 2048 piece collection.

6. Fine-tuning each piece

Fine-tuning all 2048 pieces one by one for perfection and unity.

FROM MASK TO A SOUL

The GRINNZ collection features 2048 unique masks, each handcrafted using Blender and Procreate.

The collection includes seven characters, each with seven distinctive traits, such as eye types, materials, and backgrounds, all brought to life through three bold color palettes.

This meticulous design process ensures every mask is a unique work of art with a different narrative.
