GUH Challenges

Quality Education:

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. By 2030, if nothing is done, 300 Million students will lack basic numeracy and literacy skills and 84 Million Children will be out of school.

Things to note:

The pandemic caused learning losses in 4/5 countries - of 104 countries studied. LIC and MIC face a nearly $100 Billion gap in annual financing to reach their goals. Globally, in 2020, over 14% of teachers are still not qualified according to national norms Only 50% of primary schools currently have access to facilities such as computers.

Sustainable Cities & Communities:

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. The global average waste collection in cities was 82%, with uncollected waste being a source of plastic pollution, GHG emissions and sources of incubation for infections. So far, only a third of countries have met the criterion for making considerations for `increased local fiscal space` which calls for setting up of more financing mechanisms for local implementation of sustainable urban development. Roughly half of all countries have local governments with risk reduction strategies.

Life On Land:

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. From 2015-2019, 100 Million Hectares of healthy productive land was degraded affecting both food and water security globally. Human Activities are main drivers of this land degradation. The world’s forests continue to decline.

The Bug in the Web Challenge

It's a challenge where the ordinary has no place, and absurdity reigns supreme. Create a website that defies every rule of design, navigation, and functionality, all in the name of amusement. Let your imagination run wild, embrace the unconventional, and craft a website that's so wonderfully ludicrous, it's unforgettable. The goal here, is not to create a website with random irritating bugs, but to intentionally design a fun and confusing user experience. It is still a website, so it shouldn’t just be made of 404 errors! We encourage you to push the limits of conventional web design. Here, there is no such thing as Ben Schneiderman’s 8 Golden Rules… Or is there?

Capital One Challenge:
