Japan is fast approaching the beautiful season of hanami (cherry blossom viewing), and there’s nothing better to celebrate its glorious arrival than with a glass of sakura-flavored beer.
Made with sakura petals and leaves from Nagano Prefecture, this brand new flavored Sankt Gallen beer is the perfect boozy companion for picnics under the cherry blossom trees. The sakura used in it is taken from Takatō in the city of Ina, a famous hanami spot where visitors can enjoy spring in the presence of 1,500 sakura trees located in the boundaries of historic castle ruins.

The beer was created after a request from the mayor of Ina, who wanted another flavored beer after a previous release of the Apple Cinnamon Ale which contains apples also grown in the city. The Sankt Gallen Sakura is now on sale until the beginning of April, and can be purchased at stores and online for 463 yen (US$4).
