Spring to Spring
Summer to summer
Fall to Fall
Winter to winter
Ancient abbey ruined stands
Shadows bloom silence-wreathed
Hark humanity’s footsteps weary ache
Wild wild wild the landscape lies
Time unripe uncertain tolls

The Art of Poetry – The Wonder of Exploring Writing a Poem – Sonnet – Hope – Embracing Fragility and Resilience – Poetic Reflection – Today Fragile Blooms – A Poem by Goff James

The close up image depicts a single pale pink veined geranium flowerhead robed in raindrops set against dark blurred blue cloudy background.. The image is inspired by the Sonnet/Poem -Today fragile Blooms by Goff James.

Poem

Today fragile blooms, a discordant chime,
Will there be a tomorrow, bright and new?
Yesterday echoes, lost in passing time,
Darkness deep stretches o'er the world, ’tis true.

Humanity faint weeps, a mournful sound,
Across the land, their chilling haunting pleas.
Faith’s healing light where can its rays be found?
Amongst the shadows, heartache’s songs appease

A glimmer dim, a whisper on the breeze,
Of strength that slumbers, waiting to arise.
To fight the dark, and birth a world at ease,
And dry the tears in sorrow-laden eyes.

Though damaged now, love's voice may yet resound,
If hope's small seed is planted in the ground.

The Art of Poetry – The Wonder of Exploring Writing Poetry – Ballad – Exploring Childhood – Imagination – Make-believe – Play – Adventure – A Journey Unravelling Emotions – Poetic Reflection – The Drums Go Bang the Trumpets Blow – A Poem by Goff James

The coloured image depicts a group of village children, boys and girls, with cardboard swords and shields playing a mock battle in the street. The image is inspired by a ballad, The drums Go Bang the trumpets Blow by Goff James.
Poem - Ballad
The drums go bang, the trumpets blow,
A ragged army armed to go.
They march and stomp their booted feet,
Playing soldiers in the street.

A wooden sword held firm and high,
Against the cloudless painted sky.
A shield of cardboard, strong and bold,
Fantastic stories, pots of gold.

No warriors die, no cannons roar,
Just laughter echoing evermore.
A make-believe and joyful fight,
Beneath the sun, so warm and bright.

They charge and fall, then rise again,
Upon this battlefield, play’s domain
Their war is o’er, their battle done,
Before the setting of the sun.

The drums are still, the trumpets rest,
The children weary, they fought their best.
Tomorrow's dawn, the battle scene,
Renewed upon the village green

The coloured image depicts a moonlit sky with stars and clouds. The image is inspired by the Sonnet - Midnight Strikes Twelve by Goff James
Sonnet - Midnight Strikes Twelve
Midnight strikes twelve, and moonlight holds us tight,
Dreams’ velvet curtain drawn across the day,
Where shadows dance in pools of silver light,
And time itself forgets to slip away.

The stars sing soft, a melody so sweet,
A soft refrain that rises, then descends,
Our hearts entwined, a rhythmic, pulsing beat,
As pleasure unfolds, lust hopeless transcends.

We live and love within this magic space,
Lost in the music only we can hear,
Harvesting passion with a furnaced grace,
And holding all we find intensely near.

Within each other's arms, we breathless swoon,
Finding love's palace where love’s desires bloom

Love's Poet Lost by Goff James

He wakes in fear, a cry escapes his lips,
Then fades again, to slumber's gentle hold.
Night’s deep ocean swells, moonlight’s cup he sips.
The storm’s foamed waves his aching heart enfold.

His muse, a whisper in the swirling sound,
A blinding light amidst the dark unknown,
She draws him up from depths where fears abound,
And such words of joy in his soul are sown.

This chaos wild, a fertile, sacred ground,
Where dreams and verse, and meaning can be found.

Poem – Sonnet

Love’s poet lost, in passion’s wild domain,
Where savage madness spins and ebbs and flows,
His dreams a rage, a haunting penned refrain,
Of where and why, he truly little knows.

He wakes in fear, a cry escapes his lips,
Then fades again, to slumber’s gentle hold.
Night’s deep ocean swells, moonlight’s cup he sips.
The storm’s foamed waves his aching heart enfold.

The Art of Poetry – The Wonder and Joy of Writing Free Verse – Exploring Love and Emotion – Poetic Reflection – Insight and Interpretation – midnight’s doors ajar – a poem by goff james – Quotations

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness.

Robert Frost

The image depicts a blue and whit surreal moonlit landscape with stars, clouds hills and trees. monotone . The image id inspired by the Vree Verse poem - midnight's doors ajar - written by goff james.

Poem

midnight’s
doors ajar
a mystic still
ignites
moonlight’s passion
softly fades
starlight’s
music dims
darkness
silent settles deep
lover’s restless
stretch
sleep’s vague refrains
stir and wake
whispering soft
long forgotten things
and in the dark,
where fantasies reside
the world dissolves
and dreams become the guide

A poem is a private story no matter how apparently public. The reader is always overhearing a confession.

Jorie Graham

The coloured image depicts morning's golden sun rising behind night's fading clouds and painting heaven in hues of gold, pink and lavender. The image is inspired by the Villanelle Poem - Love arise and Sing by Goff James
Lovers lie embraced.
Night’s wakefulness fades away.
Love arise and sing.

Sunrise infinite blossoms chaste,
Stillness lies where shadows play,
Lovers lie embraced.

Meadow flowers, gowned in dew’s soft trace,
Hark, sweet birdsong leads the way,
Love arise and sing.

Day anew is birthed, no moment misplaced,
As night’s dreams begin to fray,
Lovers lie embraced.

Joy, love and time are bound in dawn’s gold grace,
And for these moments of delight, let’s pray,
Love arise and sing.

Each precious kiss, each glad heart interlaced,
Now come, be merry at begin of day,
Lovers lie embraced.
Love arise and sing.

The Art of Poetry – The Wonder, Beauty and Joy of Writing – Embracing and Exploring the Villanelle – Spring – Awakening – Nature – Poetic Reflection – Insight and Interpretation – Spring’s Fragrance Wakes from Winter’s Sleep – A Poem by Goff James

The coloured image depicts dawn waking over the marsh at the beginning of Spring. The image is inspired by the Villanelle Poem - Spring's Fragrance Wakes from Winter's Sleep by Goff james

Across the marshes, shadows creep,
The curlew's cry, a haunting sound,
Spring's fragrance wakes from winter's sleep.

Where secrets blessed still waters keep,
Life stirs on this timeless ground,
Across the marshes, shadows creep.

The world awakes from silence deep,
New hope and promise bloom around,
Spring's fragrance wakes from winter's sleep.

A fragile beauty starts to peep,
Where gentle breezes softly bound,
Across the marshes, shadows creep.

This land untamed where fishes leap,
By sunrise touched, golden crowned,
Spring's fragrance wakes from winter's sleep.

While birdsong fills the hillsides steep,
Nature’s beauty spills profound,
Across the marshes, shadows creep,
Spring's fragrance wakes from winter's sleep.

The Art of Poetry – The Beauty and Wonder of Exploring Writing Poetry – Sonnet – Nature’s Inspiration – Poetic Reflection – Lovers Lie Embraced – A Poem by Goff James

The coloured image, inspired by the Sonnet / Poem - Lovers Lie Embraced by Goff James, depicts a golden sunrise bathing a verdant meadow with wild flowers and hedges. A skylark rises on the wing.
Sonnet
Lovers Lie Embraced
Lovers lie embraced, passion’s flames asleep,
Night's hushed watchful wakefulness melts and fades,
As sunrise infinite begins to peep,
And stillness silent roams in silken shades.

Meadows verdant, crowned in dawn’s pearl-cast dew,
A tapestry of colours, rich and fair,
Hark! Sweet birdsong, melodies peal anew,
Joyfully-winged they soar upon the air.

Let love arise, and sing her beauteous song,
To greet the dawn with hearts that beat and dare,
Where youthful lovers and their dreams belong,
A passing moment for the world to share.

With every beam, the sun shines bright to bless,
Their tender, waking, gowned in happiness.
