GnuWin32 SharUtils is a native Windows port of the GNU sharutils package from the GnuWin32 project. It provides classic command-line tools for packaging and exchanging files with Unix-like systems and legacy messaging channels. The suite includes shar and unshar for creating and unpacking shell archives, as well as uuencode and uudecode for converting binary data to text for transmission through text-only systems such as older email or Usenet gateways.
With shar, you can bundle multiple files and directories into a single shell archive that can include file permissions, timestamps, and optional integrity checks. Unshar extracts these archives directly on Windows. Uuencode and uudecode support traditional uuencoding and Base64, simplifying the movement of binaries through text-only paths.
Ideal for developers, maintainers, and archivists working across heterogeneous environments, GnuWin32 SharUtils brings familiar GNU utilities to Windows, supports scripting and automation, and helps bridge workflows between Windows and Unix.
GnuWin32 SharUtils is developed by GnuWin32. The most popular version of this product among our users is 4.2.
