A service for eDNA sampling, sequencing, and analysis

Accelerating biodiversity insights through eDNA

About the GMGI eDNA Service Platform

Environmental DNA (eDNA) is transforming how we study and manage ecosystems, with applications that cut across regulation, conservation, and resource management:

  • It informs environmental impact assessments and compliance efforts.
  • It strengthens biodiversity monitoring and invasive species detection.
  • It supports fisheries and aquaculture through stock assessment and health surveillance.

At the same time, eDNA is reshaping academic research, opening new avenues for discovery in ecology, evolution, and environmental science.

To meet growing demand for eDNA in fisheries assessments and ocean resilience research, GMGI has launched the eDNA Service Platform. As practicing eDNA scientists with over a decade of genomic research, we deliver robust, efficient, and scientifically rigorous solutions for collecting, processing, analyzing, and applying eDNA data. Our goal is to connect scientists, conservationists, and policymakers with the insights they need to monitor ecosystems at scale.

Why choose GMGI’s Platform?

  • We are active marine scientists with years of eDNA experience—quality data is essential to us.
  • Our team brings a wide range of in-house expertise from microbes to fishes and we are ready to innovate.
  • We are nimble, prepared to tackle challenging scientific questions and navigate a spectrum of special needs, such as complex contract spaces.
  • We work across disciplines, serving as an eDNA hub to support projects and connect the community.

Our Services

consulting

Consulting

We help you define project goals, design experiments, and address specific needs for your samples.

We invite you to contact us directly through our Contact Us form. An initial consultation is provided at no cost to discuss the scope of your project and to establish mutual expectations. We also offer a complimentary wrap-up session upon completion of the report. For extended support, including experimental design, training, or report preparation beyond the scope of our standard services, our team is available to help.

sample-collection

Sample Collection

Guidance on standardized protocols and training to ensure consistent and reliable sampling.

We accept samples collected using a variety of media and methods (e.g. filters, sediment, soil, scats). If you’re just getting started, we can help you design a collection protocol to ensure your materials are compatible with downstream eDNA analyses.

qPCR

qPCR

Targeted detection with validated assays for species- or gene-specific monitoring.

Get fast, accurate, and reliable DNA quantification with our qPCR (TaqMan assay) service. Using probe-based TaqMan chemistry, we deliver highly specific and sensitive detection for your target species or genes. Learn more.

metabarcoding

Metabarcoding

Comprehensive biodiversity surveys with robust pipelines. Already have FASTQ files? We can analyze them for a service fee.

Uncover the full biodiversity in your samples with our high-throughput metabarcoding service. We understand that every customer has different in-house processing capacities. Whether you’re just getting started or already have material prepared, we’re ready to work with samples at various stages. Learn more.
